In a first round with more blow outs than in recent memory, which team do you think had the worst performance in terms of the manner of the loss & expectations.

I'm going to go with WCE, at home first game under a new coach it couldn't have been a worse start to a new era.

Carlton and it is not even close. Choked a 40 point lead against teenagers. The sort of loss that you cannot recover from.
Freo and St Kilda were unlucky with injuries and tough opening away trips. St Kilda really got screwed by the AFL with their opening fixtures.
Port was unlucky coming up against a match hardened Collingwood and away as well.

Even worse than the performances have been some of the excuses and delusional appraisals by people inside these clubs.

"We were quite young and inexperienced down back, but that's valuable experience for them" - Connor Rozee, after his team (who are coming off a prelim???) lost by 91 points.

"I thought first half we were good in the fight, in the contest, our kicking was just a bit erratic... at half time we said more composure in our front half, and I thought that worked... we've got a growth mindset, some really valuable lessons for us." - Ross Lyon, on the Saints 63 point loss against a team who finished 10 points below them last year.

Am I going crazy? Is 10-goals the new 3-goals? Is uncompetitive performance against comparable opposition no longer that disappointing?

Apologise to the fans who actually want to have pride in their club. At least Longmuir had the decency to look hurt, admit that they didn't prepare in the right way and to promise improvement.

"At times we didn't handle their pressure as well as we could've... It was a tough-er night but it was nice to be out there and get the season underway." - Sam Walsh

vs

"They rocked up, and we didn't. Bitterly disappointing... only one game out of the 24, but that doesn't change the sick feeling in the gut." - Jack Silvagni

One of these players is a vice-captain, the other is a role-player who's just spent two years in the rehab group.

I actually don't think its Carlton, they still were able to lead by 7 goals early but somehow lost by a small margin, i get it was a shock and unacceptable for them to lose.

But Freo, Port & StKilda were woeful for 4 quarters. They showed nothing.

It's Port, they have Richmond this week and if the Tigers upset them or even get close at home then Kenny needs to say to the club, this transition isn't working and walk away! They were shocking against the Pies!

carlton & port adelaide clearly...
power copping a 90 point smashing is shameful, add to that they gave up.

All of Freo, Port, Saints and Eagles would have been underdogs or very close to it. It's not a great sign they all got flogged, but all teams will have days like these this year. Cost them % but they can claw at least some of that back and/or it won't matter (Eagles).

Carlton blew 4 points in a way that maybe only happens 2 or 3 times per season league wide.

Blues ****ness >> all of the others
