But he's the worst player in our team at the moment because:
He is taking midfield time away from guys like Sheed.
He is also keeping better players out like Redden
He isn't allowing youth to come through like Partington
Our backline is probably our biggest strength, but they are getting torn to shreds because he has 0 defensive ability on the spread. So others are having to work twice as hard and come end of games we're out of gas.
His disposal by hand has dropped off
He still can't kick
He can only turtle tackle
Very similar to Scott Thompson at the Crows and we gave him 2 more years than was required which hurt the growth of our next wave of inside mids .
If you compound that with Van Berlo , Mackay and to a lesser extent Douglas than you are more than likely going to be middling to good but never truly in the premiership race or having a sustained assault on it as young players are stifled , some fall away and the majority do not develop as they should .
You could say the same maybe with Butler for you guys who has been a solid servant but is he going to be in the next premiership contending team .
You need to give the talented youngsters a decent taste to see what you have .
There are similarities in the WCE and Crows teams in that when opposition team can execute the hunt to pressure disposal then as you said the midfield just gets killed on the spread and counter due to a dead legged midfield .
For me right now it's Brayden Maynard from Collingwood...can't kick and thinks he's tough for bumping and elbowing players when they're not even looking.
It really is, when you're trolling your own team you can't be called a fan anymore. Yeah a guy getting 25 and 8 tackles per game is worse than Majak Daw (who is probably not even the worst I can think of), ok. I'd take him over Masten ffs I don't care how slow he is compared to him. Absolutely no respect for your vets.
20 year old defender shows signs of inconsistency, it tends to happen. I think personally it's quite terrific to have a kid like him be up in players' faces and creating some entertainment; fans enjoy it when SPP does it, why not Maynard? He's had some brain farts but all young defenders of his type tend to struggle to solidify themselves. I'd say he's actually doing really well for his mould.
Dean Terlich.
No wait, Tom Gillies.
No wait, Matt Jones.
No wait, Shannon Byrnes.
No wait, Cale Morton.
No wait, Rohan Bail.
No wait, Paul Johnson.
No wait, Ben Holland.
No wait, Jamie Bennell.
No wait, Sam Blease.
No wait, James Strauss.
The bloke specialises in being the second or third worst player for us each week, but not the worst. And with our coaches addiction to minimising changes he just keeps on getting games.
