Aaron Keatings name springs to mind immediatly after reading the topic header.
Others that follow pretty quickly:
James Thiesson
Cameron Mooney
Adrian Whitehead

Throw in Jamie Duursma, Warren McKenzie and Matthew Clape.

Also it's sad, yet comical, what David Calthorpe has turned into these days, when he was a serviceable player in Essendon's 1993 premiership, and for a couple of years after it.

OOPS :o :o :o :o :o :o

I'll rephrase that...

Jamie Duursma is one of the worst players ever to get within 16 goals of a premiership, but on that basis you'd have to name half of Geelong's duds of the early 90s (Darren Forssman, Sean Simpson, Paul Brown, Russell Merriman, Geoff Miles, Leigh Tudor, etc).

Calthorpe was actually quite serviceable in the 93 GF.
It wasn't until we let him go that he became the absolute hack he is today.....

I certainly wouldn't count James Thiessen in this topic....he kicked a great goal in that Premiership for the Crows, and also played well for Norwood in their Grand Final win.

Would you say Wayne Carey was the worst player for North Melbourne when they lost to the Crows because he missed a couple of easy goals?

It's pretty subjective, isn't it?

Crow54, i think you may have missed the point.

BT means a player who is very ordinary, and just happened to get lucky enough to play in a premiership side.

I can't remember James Thiessen much in the final, but just because he played good in that one match, doesn't change the fact he is nothing more than an ordinary player.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but i'm pretty sure you thought BT means the worst individual performance in a Grand Final (from a player on the winning side).

One word..........SHANE ELLEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

oops. sorry that's two words, just like CAN"T PLAY.
I don't wanna here any crap about kicking 5 goals either. This guy was a complete dud and anyone could have wandered aimlessly around that Crows forward line against St Kilda and kicked goals.

James Thiessen is the one that springs to mind first.

James Thiessen had quite a good game on the wing in the 1998 GF, he beat his opponent David King pointless that game. Scored a good goal, and should have been awarded two goals, but the boundary umpire guessed that he had taken the ball out of bounds.

The nightmare returns.
I didn't need to be reminded of that.

Xavier Tanner was picked in the Centre for both of North's 1977 Grand Finals.

I didn't really specify any criteria for selection it's all up to you guys to argue the merits of certain players.

However IF we're talking about small contributions to victories on the day itself then Cameron Mooney North 99 (did he get a touch that day?) and Bruce Monteath Richmond 80 (Acting captain but spent the first 3 quarters on the bench, the game was well and truly over by the time he came on) and Gary Buckenara Haw 83 (Injured in the first qtr of the 83 GF)

Clay Sampson, Paul Hills,Trent Ormond Allen all come to mind as Ordinary players overall who got extremely lucky. There will be others but they come to mind first.

I think it should be clarified, that we are NOT talking about these players' contributions on the day. After all, the Grand Final is just one match, and the history of football is littered with players who have lacked ability, but have played a pivotal role in Grand Finals.

We are talking about premiership players who were not particulary talented over their whole career. Anyone can play well on the day!
