Have to say I can't stand Brian Markovic either. He constantly refers to jockeys by their nicknames - 'Sparrow' Flaherty, 'Super Sal' Wynne, 'Max' Allen, 'Cuppa' Coffey.... A great way to alienate the listeners. (Plus the very sound of his voice annoys me.)

I'd still put him in front of perhaps the worst of all time - Terry Bailey.

How he rose to the level he got to I do not know. He must have had some embarrassing inside info on the big chiefs at Sky/TVN or something.

I still remember a few years back when he called Adam winning a big race in Sydney and as they passed the winning post he let this little gem pass his lips -

"But it's Adam! Adam with all guts 'n blood wins the (whatever the race was)"

With all guts 'n blood???

Must have been having flashbacks about the Schwarzenegger flick he watched the night before.

I quite like brian when he did the trots years ago

Too true with Pappsy. He sounded like a broken record with his "and the good thing of the day is home" comment.

Yeh, good thing for you Pappsy - not so good for those that backed something else!

I work as a form analyst so im listening to races all day and I can tell you the worst without a doubt is Rick McIntosh who does the provincials in Vic.

He forgets horses names, calls them in the wrong order over the line and stumbles over his words,

there was a race the other day where I think the horse was Saddlers story and he was calling it spirit of tara. im not joking!

Ryan Levitzke, the Mandurah greyhound caller, is the most montone shithouse voice ive ever heard. Could be the biggest outsider winning in a big race and he still wouldnt get excited.

Yeah, Alan Thomas is tops. Even if his calls aren't by the book, they're full of excitement so he does what he should.

I admire anyone who has a crack at race calling, as it would be difficult to learn so many colours and numbers in a meeting, but Col Hodges really struggles nowadays. Trips over his words, searches for names halfway down the straight and finds photos near impossible (to be fair there, some NSW provincial tracks have tough camera angles).

TB may as well just tell the audience who he is on in a race, it's that obvious. Hearing him trying to convince himself that his chosen one is about to win is comical at times.
