Just thinking about today's game. In between bouts of pride and disappointment, I had the thought of "Would we have been as close as we were if Carey was playing". I love the way the boys play when they run the ball and look for options. Just wondering whether or not that would have gone out the window a bit if Wayne had been playing...

Thoughts?

If he plays at CHF they look for him automatically.
If he plays elsewhere, this is not the case, but he is too good a player not to beat his man. The difference was in the match ups. If Carey played up forward, it would have left Essendon one short in defence - as it is their defence was stretched and they won it through the midfield.

Jason Johnson, I respect you for the hard man you are, and the possession winner you are, and for what you mean to your team -fearless and brilliant player. Dean Solomon, you are a ******* and a thug.

The thing I noticed today was that you scored virtually every time you went fprward in the first quarter (more or less). That is efficiency at its highest level.

If you score 100% of the time you foray forward, then you can't do any better than that. If Carey was in the forard line in the first quarter, you surely wouldn't have been able to score any more than the 12 goals you did. How can you do better than 100% efficiency?

In my opinion, you missed Martyn (even though his form has been down a bit this year), because he may have been able to stop Lloyd, who proved (along with JJ), the matchwinner.

I mean, surely, you wouldn't have expected to kick more than the 25 goals you did, if Carey had played.

Martyn huge loss - possibly the difference between Lloyd kicking 9 and Lloyd kicking 2. We may never find out. Lloyd beat his opponents fairly on the day, but Archer should never have been on him.

I am not sure Wayne would have made a difference in the forward line... but I am sure Denis would have loved to have been able to place him in defence in the second quarter just to stop the roll Essendon was on... the more important part of Wayne's game now is his experience and leadership abilities... something that was sadly missing with Wayne Stevo and Mick out... The young boys did us proud...

But what we do know is Essendon does bleed... and if you bleed you can be killed...

Well done boys... very few passengers on the day...

I agree, I dont think the King would have made any difference to they gameif he was playing. But I think Stevo would have. So much for ifs and buts. How many thought we wouldnt have a chance because of those if and buts being out.

Before the match if you had told me we would lose by 2 goals I'd have taken it and gone home. I was expecting to go within 30-40pts and be happy with it!

And the late withdrawal of Duck just reaffirmed that for me.

First quarter the Dons weren't switched on maybe they thought that without Duck, Micky and Stevo that it was a forgone conclusion??!!

Either way that first 30 odd minutes was fantastic!

You referring to the last qtr incident Darky?

******* : I don't rate Solomon's football ability at all.

Thug : The incident I was referring to was when he (allegedly:o) snotted Corey Jones. I forget which quarter.

I was about to post to see if anyone actually saw what happened and who it was. I looked accross and saw him hit but could not work out who it was or how bad.

From where I was it looked like a king hit 50 metres from the ball. Can anyone supply more info ?

I looked over at the exact moment Solomon made contact to Jonesy's face.

Jonesy went down like a sack of spuds holding his face (nose) while Solomon took off!

The ball (play) was at least 70 metres down the other end of the ground - hence no umpires nearby and certainly no cameras on the incident.

Malibu I believe that cameras cover the grouind at all times these days, so maybe this hero wont get away with it. It doesnt hurt to ring the AFL and get put through to the umpiring director and let him know when, and what to look for.:p

Thanks Daphne.

Would the Umpiring Director be that Dirty old Jeff G. - ex Coach of Richmond?

EWWWW - I'd end up abusing him and forgetting what I called about in the first place!

Yeah I saw that on the replay though you can't see the actual point of impact. Silly bugger, if he did hit him he should get a couple of weeks.

On the replay the ball was being kicked at half back (nth) and was in transit in the air to half forward when it occured. the two players were on the flank, so it was not quite 70m, but off the play nonetheless. Unnecessary and stoopid.

I probably got the distance wrong because I was too busy watching the incident and didn't bother with the replay (too much heartache!)

The Director of Umpires on the field is James Hird. As for the Solomon/Jones incident. I wish to make a correction. Soloman did not strike Jones, Jones put his face in front of Solomon's fist. Jones could be reported.

The match was televised directly by c7sport for Optus. They often have a shot from behind the goalposts.Footy Feedback is on tonight .I`m sure if they can find footage of the incident they would use it.
