Opinion Would Lynch get a game next year with a full foward line?

Yeah, there's still a role for him, we need his size. On one hand we complain about undersized mids, then on the other we want to remove a large body who is a good marking target, big bodied and provides a third ruck option? He's not playing the same role as in 05/06 but he still adds value.
Not sold on Lycett, I know we want all our recruits to be successful, but sometimes they just aren't up to AFL standard.
Happy to be eating my hat though as ruck options are few and far between.

he never uses his size to his advantage. very rarely. hes a big unit but isnt the intimidating or powerful type which is sad because had he was a grunt he wouldve been a very good forward.

that... says a lot about lynch really...

yes - hes a forward taken from the rookie list who has carved a career with hard work rather than bags of talent - he also played a great game in the 06 granny.

he pinch hits well int he ruck and when the others are back will roam up the ground a bit where he is too strong for the opposition midfield to work over - he provides some strength that we lack in our middle

with lecras and kennedy back in the forward line - he becomes very difficult to match up on - how quickly we forget.

the upside of this injury crisis is the fast forwarding of jd's development - imagine when hes getting the second or third best defenders next year - he will chop up

Yeh really don't rate Q this year. Would love to see McInnes given a run (though i wish he tackled more).
I don't think Q is a good pinch hit ruckman at all...I think he is a bit of a liability to be honest.

Been a fantastic servant of the club but is looking pretty cooked.

Next year he could be squeezed out for structural reasons (Kennedy/Darling/Resting Ruck gives us enough tall forwards) OR even if we keep the same structure, McInnes/McGovern could be ready to take over depending on what sort of preseasons they have.

So in summary, I'd say he's a depth player only from 2013 onwards.

Good question actually...

If you ask me the Qstick has gone a bit under the radar this year in terms of the eagles "failings"
I would hazard a guess at yes, but only because there doesn't seem to be a decent replacement for him ready to step in next year that i know of? CHF isn't exactly an easy position. Fraser hasn't dominated WAFL has he?

When i think about it, i've been acting like Darls is the only tall forward playing for us this year, but the Qstick has played almost every game apart from when he was suspended. Some decent efforts. Against NORTH (not norf because i'm not a moron) he played a decent cameo and a few other games he's done well.

But it's the 'twilight' of his career i guess, and last year was a very good year for him. Hopefully can get up and going again.
For his size and marking ability he really doesn't do enough. Once again, "take a page out of Darls book" Qstick.

I have been saying it for some time, if the conditions are wet or even slippery he is as useful as a witches cone. He needs to be replaced with a smaller emergency in these conditions.

He still 3rd on our goal kicking this year, only just behind Hill. But he is playing more half forward than full forward. With Kennedy back in the side I still think he plays a role in stretching the opposition down back.

But in any case he probably only has a couple of years left so we will need to start sorting out a replacement anyway.

It's hard to know what our full strength forward line will look like, maybee something like this-

Lecras Kennedy Cox
Masten Darling Hill/Nicoski/Dick

Not sold on Hill yet tbh.. and would like to see Darling take up CHF more next year.

No, I think the rise of Darling and the Cox/Naita full-foward rest really makes him a depth player to cover for either of Kennedy or Darling that can't go in, or to come in if we want to go especially tall against a team with a backline that can't handle the height.

My starting lineup, Round 1 2013

Glass Mackenzie Waters
Hurn Schofield A. Selwood
Shuey Priddis Gaff
Masten Darling
Kennedy LeCras
Hill Cox

Naitanui S. Selwood Kerr

Fighting for the first two (non-defender) bench spots:
Rosa, Embley, Nicoski, Sheppard, Newman, Dick, Lynch.
Sub also to come from this list.

Fighting for last (defender) spot on the bench (and maybe A. Selwood's spot):
Butler, Brennan, Smith.

I think we are better without Lynch at full strength. Cox will be spending heaps of time forward.

I thought he was done after 2010, then he had a good 2011 and was a marking machine playing across half forward.

Assuming a full list to pick from, he should be in the 20th-30th player picked bracket going into 2013 competing for a half forward spot. He's a solid but unspectacular player and there will be times in 2013 we're glad we have him. If we're basing our forward line around him playing a key role for 22 games or dumping him altogether then we're on the wrong track.

I reckon it's premature to make a call that Lynch is done. Give him his due, he's bloody durable and that means he may still be in the mix for a while yet.

Some people are very casually assuming that Nicoski reclaims his spot in the 22. I hope he does, as he was great last year, but I don't think there's any guarantees there.

I think, at full-strength, there's still room for Lynch, with three of Kennedy, Darling, Lynch, Naitanui and Cox playing forward at all times. One on the bench and one rucking. I don't have a problem with that.

Most other teams have one good ruckman and a backup, therefore keeping him in the team as rucking backup is unnecessary. He needs to cut it in his main role and against the better teams this year he has been hopeless. We need more speed to chase out of the forward line and through the midfield and he is as slow as treacle.
