*bump*

I had a similar housemate-related issue recently.

Last Tuesday, my housemate (24yo male backpacker) gave his set of house keys to his friend without my knowledge. I came back home after work and the friend, whom I'd hadn't previously met, walked in through the back door of my apartment with his girlfriend.

Surprised, I asked who he was. He replied in bad English. I went to my phone and discovered an unread SMS text message from my housemate stating his two friends were staying in his room for one night.

One night turned into two. On the second night, an extra backpacker was invited to stay by my housemate. They (3 people) stayed a third night without telling me a word on their plans.

On this night, I quizzed my housemate in private on when they would be leaving and he gave me a vague reply. Half an hour later, his friend gave me a death stare as he walked past me in the kitchen! I was livid.

The next morning (Friday), I told my housemate in private that they had to leave. He then told me that would happen on that afternoon without question.

When I came back home on Friday evening, the turds were still there while my housemate was at work. I asked to speak to them before proceeding to lay the boot in a polite manner. They tried to sway my decision, even after giving them a perfectly reasonable explanation as to why it was necessary for them to leave.

During this discussion, the backpacker bloke remarked on the music he heard coming from my room. In his bad English, he said:

Your music? High Tone
Cool!
You?
(slurs) ehhhhhhhh, not cool...

I chuckled. They left.

i just would have told them to get the f*ck out... subtlety or appeasement is not my strongest attribute though
