Yeah I know its a hypothetical, but as far as I'm concerned a very unlikely one. Aren't I allowed to say its a "stupid" hypothetical situation.

Well i did mention the word "unlikely" but maybe you missed that in your haste.

& your right you are allowed to say "it's a stupid hypothetical situation" no argument from me.

. Unfortunately quality on the sporting field and quality in real-life are almost never related so you can fill your side with quality 'backbone' people whilst we take on the misfits and turn them into Norm Smith Medallists..

I wouldn't have called Pickett a misfit while he was playing for the Roos in fact he was a pretty good player back then also.

now Noddy see what you've started - an argument over a hypothetical situation that is unlikely to happen..... ;)

The wind blows softly through the quiet streets.

A tumble weed rolls by. The place is empty. It's a ghost town.

Welcome to the Port Adelaide Board.

In answer to your question, I wouldn't want Byron at the Crows. Not because he is not a good player (quite the opposite) but we need youth and he will be 28 (???)nest year. In we are in other circumstances the answer woudl be yes and it would cost us 1st round pick and a bit more.

His age & the way he looks after his body during the off-season would be the 2 biggest worries that i would have.

Anyway have changed from "not having a clue" to "no thanks you can keep him" :)

Don't kid yourself into thinking all AFL players are like Byron or P Burgoyne. There are plenty of quality people who play AFL. Even Port have one or two.

Well i was being honest, :)
I have often asked my self since the Begley hit "would i like my club to trade for him if he became available this year"

That's all, nothing sinister in it at all.

He was indeed a good player at the Roos but some of his off-field indescretions in melbourne simply werent reported because (a) he played for low-profile vic club and (b) the SA media is so blatantly SA biased.

The fact that Port didnt take him in their initial list gives an insight into the difference of opinion regarding discipline between jack cahill and choco.

All i am saying is that high profile sportspeople have to have their head screwed on extra tight to not let the fame, money and attention go straight to their heads at such a young age. Good luck to the ones that do but i think we as a society are too quick to make role models out of some players that obviously dont warrant it and probably dont seek it...

How do you know he had off-field indiscretions at the Roos if they weren't reported.

I could be wrong bit I thought it was just because they didn't rate him, just like so many other teams passed on him. He was a bit of a smokey pick who went on to make it (not unlike Johncock).

Why else would they have traded him to us for zero a year before his contract was up?

two of the best. ABsolute champions. Of course not all AFL players are going to be in the same class as these two. They are both champions who have performed on the biggest day in footy. What the Crows wouldn't do to have players and people of their quality playing for them.

Kepp dreaming though!

Indeed. Thing is, though, I don't think rape and drink driving are the sorts of things that quality young men do, whatever the fame, money etc.

I admire Byron Pickett as a player, not a person. His ability to turn games instantly with his bash-and-crash style of play, great pace and freak ability is definitely great to watch.

However, he is far too old to even consider trading for him. Besides, we would have to give up at least our 1st Round Draft pick, and that's something we can't afford to do at this stage. :o

The likes of Damon White and Jacob Surjan would be much more enticing at this stage IMO. :)

People of their quality? Hahaha

See people, Port fans do have a sense of humour.

You are a ********ing disgusting person, how can you just turn a blind eye to a person such as P. Burgoyne. I would hope, if we had a player like him who did the same act as him he would be given the boot regardless of how good he is.

I pity a person like yourself I really do, how can someone live such a naive and sheltered life? Must be a very sad existance.

Yeah the Crows dont have players who have performed on the biggest day of footy

U are the joke. How can u chastice Burgoyne when the incident he was involved was with a CROWS player as well. Your the naive person buddy, but I suppose you wouldn't even know what actually happenned or who was actually involved. Becasue of this you should not comment, and If you do you have to do so in the knowledge that a Crows player was involved.

...and how long did he last on the list ???

Thats not the point. When the incident occured he was a contracted player, and if he was any good he'd still be with the Crows.

Wrong stupid. He was and still is a SWANS player. But dont let the facts get in the way of your story.
