I work in the Central Control Room at an Alumina Refinery, and I swiped in the gate this morning after the last nights electrifying qualifying final win over the Pies, proudly wearing my ISC WCE polo shirt over top of my high vis.
My Supervisor, (who is a Rugby nut), after having a light hearted jab about how wearing the top was inappropriate on a mine site, (my reply was that if there is a risk of caustic burns or catching fire up in the Control Room we have bigger issues than my shirt),
he then posed the question...
"Would I burn my shirt, or one of my guernseys, for $1,000,000?"
My immediate reply was yes, $1,000,000 is a life changing amount of money. Among other things, that sort of money would get me box seats at the 2018 GF, a room at the Park Hyatt, and I could purchase a signed, match worn guernsey from one of our lads.
He was surprised, saying that surely a passionate member like myself would never even consider doing such a blasphemous thing.
My reply was that if it was irreplaceable, for example, the guernsey that Peter Matera wore in the 1992 GF, then no, I would start a go fund me, appealing for the 80,000 WCE members to chip in $12.50 to save such a precious relic, but a guernsey straight off the rack, sure!
He was still disappointed, and of the opinion that a real hard core WCE fan would turn down the coin, no matter what (clearly trying to wind me up). I am aware it is a ridiculous question, but for a bit of fun I said i would pose the question to my Big Footy brothers & sisters, and he is eagerly awaiting the response.. so.. would you?
