Not corny at all, Kasey. Perfectly legit, to me.

In fact, I now have two countries to die for. Perfectly honourable. :)

Cheers,
William

William, I just hope that some of our young men don't have to die for the USA because of John Howard's need to please his keepers in Washington.
But that's a whole other discussion.

Sure is, Santos/Hank-- and I share your sentiments completely.

Start a separate thread, and I'd be glad to vent over there instead. :)

Cheers,
William

William, take a look at this thread in progress. I have stayed out of it so far, but it's going in some interesting directions.

Yes Kenny too, because I know he would die to protect me.

It’s a tough one if you are young. I don't put any of my own achievements or future achievements on pedestal. I don't think I would take my life for my parents but I would give them everything I earnt or acquired if they needed it.

hahaha.are you for real you little twerp?of course you' d give money to your folks, after all, you' re still living at home with them sponging off them, too afraid to get out there in the real world.

and achievements?what achievements? you' ve achieved absolutely nothing.you try to live off the coventry name, even though your lamo name is tateson.your grammar is the worst on these boards, you need to go back to school you illiterate fool.

Yes, there is a big difference between dying for your country, and dying for another country on the other side of the world in a rashly thought out stab at foreign policy.

If I was at sea (as opposed to my cushy shore billet at the moment!), and my ship was sent to the Gulf, I would go. Why, because I gave my word that I would go. I would have to trust in my country, government and shipmates that things would work out for the best. Sound a little naive, but I assure you that I am not. It was like that in Timor, when we wern't sure it how it was going to turn out, and I dare saw if I stay in long enough, it will be like that again somewhere else (although I hope things don't go pear shaped obviously).

Blues Girl? ;)

I once met a girl I was so besotted with I would have laid down my life for her without hesitation.. until I found out what she was really like. Now I probably wouldn't find the brake pedal if she was crossing the road.

Having said that there is only one person I would die for, my neice. Everyone else can get stuffed.

It's a fine line between love and hate, isn't it? :(

Easy question. I'd die for my brother no question. Not sure if i would for my parents because they have already lived most of there lives and would rather me live mine than die for them. My brother though, no question.

I've seen my partner on deaths door twice, and it has left me in no doubt that I would die for her and our kids. They are the most important people in the world to me, I'd have no concerns about dying if they it would save them.

Was there a fist fight or something?

Answer not quite sure whether I could die for someone, but probably would to save my brother, mother, sister or nephew and certain players at Collingwood.

This is a tricky one because you would like to say you would die for someone, but then again would it be worth it to know that that person would be depressed because YOU were dead?

But - in short - yes.

The Hitman
It's like a pendulum.

The deeper the feelings, the more you're going to despise that person when it all goes wrong.

I don't think it is a question of dying to save someone, because outside of combat, like throwing yourself on a grenade, which is a myth anyway, because a grenade will blow a 200 pound man 30 feet in the air and still kill everyone within 5 feet, there are few situations where you would actually go into it knowing that you were going to die to save someone.

I think the question is more properly worded,

"Would you risk your life to save someone?"

Answer?

Almost without question.

How many people have we heard of, who, without even thinking about it, have run into houses on fire, jumped into flooded rivers, to save someone that they have never even met?

Look at September 11. The stories of heroism there are just incredible.

I think it is almost a human instinct to save the life of someone, or at least try, who is in trouble.

I think war makes you do things you wouldn't normally do; the situation demands it USA Eagle.

I orginally had the thought in my mind because my Grandmother was telling me of a situation that occurred when my Grandfather was serving in the Air Force in WW2. Apparently their plane went down and one member was badly injured.

As they where in occupied teritory it would be in best interests of the group to roam free without this badly injured member. He put their life ahead of his and as a result they were able to find shelter with an Italian family.

If I was in war I would do the same.

If I could, I'd want to die to save my parents lives. But I still have my whole life to live, so I couldn't. I know that they would never let me. I think I probably would for my best friends. Like some other people said, you don't want to leave your family and friends behind knowing that they would be depressed over your death. But I love my best friends so I would.
