Well to play footy you have to be mates with your teammates. So I would, but I would still have mates anyway.

I don't know why your giving up your mates to train play footy. I mean if your in the pathway program where you are travelling 3 days a week to play TAC. Then club footy and school you probably need to sacrifice yes but one thing about dreams if you don't give it your all you can't regret anything. And your mates will always be there after anyway or are you a mature player

If they were REAL mates, no problem. They'd give you all the space needed to concentrate on your career. If they were dead beats who just wanted to spend their lives in the pub, taking drugs and expecting you to be one of the group, then you're better off without them.

Because technically you are gaining new friends and socialising with your teammates at training
