Games & Recreation Would you rather summer or winter?

Wow Im really suprised winter is getting up. Ive always thought people live for summer in Australia. At work all I hear is people whinging "Im over winter..."

Definitely winter - the colder the better. NZ, Europe and Melbourne in winter are my three top holiday destinations. Also love the atmosphere in Melbourne on a winter's day or night with people heading to the footy etc. Winter here in Brisbane is actually closer to my ideal summer weather - high teens to low 20s and clear crisp mornings.

Summer. It's not even a contest for me.

I live next to a beach so summer is perfect for me while winter is depressing.

Great OP.

This exact time of year is why I love Perth. Look outside, it's stupidly nice.

I love winter because the clothes you wear are way cooler. A lot more variety, in summer it's just shorts and shirt.

I love overcast drizzling days, I don't why, I just do. Something about them.

Summer here is too hot. The chicks look hot but they're also really sweaty and their orifices go all, uhhhh, yeah.

This time of year is perfect, warm enough for shorts and shirt during the day, cold enough for jeans and jumper atnight. Ladies look smokin minus the sweat, and the birds singing makes me feel nice.

:thumbsu:

For me, it's a fair distance to have a swim. I either catch the train somewhere, or go to one of the families places in Freo. Either way, it's horrible. By the time you get out and you're half way home, you're sweating again and you feel like another swim. You might as well just hang around at home or whatever, as gross as it is.

Being the introvert that I am, and how our air-con is not very good, I hate Summer more than any other season. Especially in Perth where we have some long heatwaves (like earlier this year where it was a week of 38+ degree days). Work is unbearable in the heat. Sunburn is a bitch especially since I'm a ranga. Etc etc etc

Think I might be one of the few that actually rather winter over summer.

Winter in Perth:
- footy season
- average temp about 22 degrees
- mostly sunny days
- easy to get warm
- chics still look hot
- get to wear cooler clothes

Summer in Perth:
- stinking frikkin hot and dry. Hard to sleep.
- get sunburnt pretty much in moonlight (I have some subtle ranga tendencies - FML)
- its not footy season
- cricket season and the beach are the only things going for it
- did I mention its frikkin hot ALL the time
- cant swim at the beach anymore: sharks
Winter in Hamburg, germany

-cold (anything between 5 and -10 degrees with occasional outbreaks to -15 ..)
-lots of rain or snow and darkness and wind(december = day light from 9 am till 3. pm. )
- winter sports are on ski jumping alpine skiing and biathlon and the lot.
better have a good footing otherwise you'll break our neck when theres ice on the roads/pavements
trees are all bare and nature becomes quite monocromatic
ice skating is awesome on natural lakes

Summer in HH Germany

everything is green and pretty
you may be able to wear lighter clothes
lots of different sports are on
sun stays out for 14-16 h a day
it can rain a heck lot but it can also be warm mostly people complain about either if it lasts too long.
most street fest with live music are on the summer.

Here in Vancouver, I would say summer. It rains a lot most of the year here but we get a bit of a break in summer. It's usually around high 20's or low 30's which is perfect I think. It stays light until 9:30pm or so and it's great for BBQ and entertaining. I also like going out to the forest and lakes camping. Hockey finals are on and I can also watch the football season in Australia which is cool.

Before transitioning, I found it difficult to sleep in summer (or woke up earlier because it gets warm at like 6am) and slept like a baby in winter.

Nowadays, I feel like my body temperature has dropped a degree or so. So now I sleep okay in summer and struggle in winter (Canberra mind you, so the winter is vicious)

I like wearing layers, and seldom get sick, so winter is fine with me, but in Canberra during winter I am eternally wearing socks or something of the sort, my feet get really cold. But in summer you have more time in the day for exercise, and summer is also associated with an exciting time down under (holidays, xmas, aus open, australia day, nye, etc)
Also in winter you can arrive at and leave work in the dark, so a period of that can be mildly depressing.

I dont have a winner. Preferably winter that is always sunny during the daytime.

Overall I'd say Winter, i find colder weather more calming if that's the right word.
The Footy is on, you can easily huddle in front of a fire or heater if your to cold.

Summer does have some things i like.
  • Sleeping with a fan blowing on me
  • BBQ's
  • Swimming
  • Daylight savings is good sometimes
In Hobart it usually hovers around 20-25 degrees with about 3-6 30+ days on an average summer.
I do enjoy those rare 30+ days since it is kind of a novelty here.
I also like heavy rain & thunderstorms in the summer, they are also quite rare here though.

Take the footy away from the winter and all you have left is a few months of sh1t weather. I love the summer, the hotter the better.
