These are sought of like hypothetical questions. Here goes:

1.Would you rather...finish 9th 2 years in a row OR finish 16th for just one season?

2.If your team had the choice of merging with Collingwood (or...St.Kilda for maggies supporters) OR being moved to Wellington (NZ) and becoming the Wellington (e.g Tigers) .... what would you rather?

3.Would you rather wear the same type of guernsey for H&A matches for the season OR wear two different guensey's (H&A) but one of them being bright orange?

4.AND...Would you rather win the premiership 2 years in a row OR win the premiership one year and then the year after the next (e.g. win in 2000 then in 2002)?

These are sought of dumb questions but hey, i'm bored!

My answers would be:
1. Finish 16th for one season.
2. Merge with Collingwood. We would remain in Australia and get to see more of their games.
3. Same guernsey!
4. 2 Premeirships with a year break in the middle.

Good topic.

1.) 9th for two years in a row. The whole point is trying to be successful. Finishing 9th, even for two years in a row, is better than finishing 16th. Finishing last is something to be ashamed of. No club wants the stigma of a wooden spoon. I want to win as many games as possible, and 9th means winning more games than 16th.

2.)I'd rather relocate. That way, your club remains the same. You retain your premierships, your past greats, your colours, and your history. Essentially, you are the same club, just playing out of a different city. Beats merging. I want "MY" club.

3.)One guernsey.

4.)Back to back. Winning two in a row is more sought after than 2 in three years. It also will be more famous in years to come, if a team goes back-to-back.

Had to c&p to remember em

1) I should say finish 9th twice rather than have a bloody miserable season at the bottom but the prize No1 draft pick and extra pick for winning less than 5 times may mean that a good foundation is built for future years that two 9ths would not give. So 16th.
2) If NZ I wouldn't be able to see them but a merge may have similar consequences so I'd have to see who with and where to first.
3)One main strip used for all home games and all away games where there is not a colour clash. A second strip for colour clashes. Maybe just reversed colours like Carlton having white tops with a navy blue crest.
4) back to back then make it three

1) It is hard to say RF. All players compete to play finals football. If we were to follow up our last place this year with a finals berth, I would much prefer that than to finishing 9th place twice. However, if we were finish outside the finals again, I would prefer that we finished 9th both years.

By the way Dan, as a saints fan I can say that I am disappointed to finish last. But never ASHAMED. I am sick to death of you referring to the "incompetence" of St Kilda over the years. You may be stating facts but you are annoying the hell out of me with the arrogant way that you express your ideas.

2) Neither. It does surprise me when people here seem to attack others who say that they would not follow their club if they merged/relocated. I barrack for the St Kilda Football Club. My love for the game centres around St Kilda. The day we cease to exist in our own right in our own city is the day I refuse to follow the game at the highest level. Having said that, I fully respect those Fitzroy fans that are following the Brisbane Lions, I just don't think I could do it myself.

3) A few saints fans have spoken about changing our strip but I am a big fan of both our current uniforms. Our traditional and "hot cross bun" uniforms are fine with me. Although I must admit that the traditional guernsey should have been worn in the 1997 Grand Final. I have to pass on the orange.

4) I don't think as a saints fan I could afford to be too fussy on this question. Just the one premiership would be good enough.

1) 9th for 2 years in a row - it's more success, and it's kinda easier to swallow knowing you missed by just one spot if it's on percentage lol

2) Merge with Collingwood (yes REALLY) sainter........I totally agree with you about people who find it too difficult to follow a merged side after having their 'OWN' for so long, I respect those people (most of you know that I am one who chose to continue following the Brisbane Lions, and love every second of it
smile.gif
but that doesn't mean I can't see the other side) Compared to completely losing your club, merging or relocating is much kinder IMO. I would take the Collingwood option because I wouldn't want my team in another country, that may sound silly to those sitting there saying 'but wait, you follow a team 2 states away, what's the difference' lol it's just the way I feel
smile.gif

3) One guernsey - NO orange thanks

4) I would prefer back to back premierships, just to experience the feeling.
smile.gif
However I don't care if there is a year between them, I just want ANY damn flags, the more the better.

LOL

I agree with Dan

9th twice or 16th ?
9th everytime, finishing last is not a noble outcome. If my team had finished 9th 1 year and were 12th the next with 5 rounds to go, I could not support them if the went out and deliberately lost the last 5 games to finish last rather than win to finish 9th.

Back to back or 2 in 3
Back to back. golden era sides string several p'ships together. At least at the end of the 2nd year you are in with a chance of doing that.

Merge or Move ?
Move. I have never lived in the Adelaide whilst Port have been in the AFL so I am used to the TV and thin support at Vic games.

Jumpers
As a traditionalist 1 jumper would be best. Preferably black and white "jailbar" look (wishful thinking I think)

ptw

hmmmmmm 9th or 16th well depends on the situation rich 9th in 99 was pretty flatering where as in 2000 all would agree we did improve and id go as far as saying we deserved a spot in the 8 ahead of either geelong or hawthorn so it all depends in 99 id rather we finished 16th in 2000 it was with honours.
as far as merge or relocate id rather relocate.
same jumper every match
back to back is the ultimate challenge
cheers!

1. 9th has better prestige, but 16th has some good advantages, draft picks, etc. Depends on the state of the team I suppose, whether everyone is aging, injured or you just have no talent.

2. Merge with Collingwood (easy)

3. Same guernsey, I hate the Crows away jumper, looks ridiculous.

4. Two premierships, definitely. Just as Dan implied, two premierships in a row elevates a team from good, to great status.

1. Despite the advantages of better draft picks I think I would rather finsih 9th twice as it would show a team close to finals action needing fewer changes to go all the way. Not many teams go straight from the bottom to sustained success (sorry sainter).

2. I have to go with neither here. The 96 Dawks debacle proved to me that if I couldn't follow Hawthorn as they are that I wouldn't follow the game at AFL level.

3. One jumper only, wouldn't want to ruin the wonderful brown and gold
biggrin.gif

4. Two in a row no doubt.

Depends on how you finish 16th. With the priority draft choices, then yes thats preferable if you have no choice but to finish that low. No way if you only got the first draft pick though, then it would just be a complete waste after everyother teams seemed to have been compensated for the 'honour' of collecting the spoon.

Merge or relocate to NZ? Two different forms of death i guess. If the were to survive and flourish in NZ and never to pick up that bluddy acsunt (sorry BSA) thun, i mean then, relocation would be better than merging. Even if i didnt get to see them play live as often.

Bright Orange might be a little bit strong, but hell i get ribbed enough now about the Gold so who cares about the colour.

Rather win back to back, the great sides are always given better credence if they can do that. So yeah back to back, then back to back then back to back and so on into infinity.........

1) Finish 9th twice. Since the eagles have never finished 16th, I'd hope we could keep that record in tact. 9th twice would hurt, but it meant that your knocking on the door of the 8 and thats still something.

2) Relocate to Wellington. Why would a West Aussie club merge with a Victorian club? No sense there and at least with Wellington, there will be more supporters and the club keeps it's history
smile.gif

3) Same jumper for all the games. But if we could wear 2 jumpers for H&A games, they should bring back the old old jumper to remember the good times.

4) Well we won in 1992 and 1994, but I'd love to see the Eagles do what the crows did and steal the cup off the vics for 2 years in a row
smile.gif

Yeah Funks Grun-dill

Re-locate to NZ ?
What on earth are you guys talking about ?

The game is not sufficently developed over there to be able to support an AFL quality team.

Interest in Aussie Rules Football in NZ is expanding and has been ever since the late 1970's when VFL was first telecast into NZ, but this interest is off a very low base and even now NZ would really struggle to get the support going.

However, having said that, let say that IF (and its a big if) it ever happened, Richmond moving to Wellington is marriage made in Heaven.

I grew up in Wellington and myself and all my schoolmates used to follow Richmond in the old VFL because they were a dominant team in those days and they wore the Yellow and Black, which is also the colours of Wellington.

Interest in the game is strongest in the Wellington area, far stronger than Auckland (which is the biggest city) or Christchurch. Wellington also has the Westpac Trust Stadium which is a brand new state of the art venue which is Oval shaped and more than large enough for Aussie Rules.

So if it came to the crunch and Richmond were looking seriously at Nz (god forbid) then Wellington just has to be the way to go. AFL fans in the windy city would welcome you with open arms.

BTW check out the new stadium in Wellington on February 17 during the Ansett Cup, Sydney are playing Geelong there on the Saturday night.

Sainter,

Chill out, dude. Look, one of Carlton's proudest achievements is that they have never finished last. I'd HATE to finish last, personally. Who cares about the draft picks and all that? We finished last !

Finishing on the bottom has a stigma that I personally don't want. I don't want my team to get the wooden spoon, despite the advantages in the draft.

That is why I'd rather finish 9th twice.

Geez, I get accused of being arrogant, just because I don't want to finish on the bottom. What's the world coming to?

A little part of me died when Sydney picked up successive Wooden Spoons in 92, 93 and 94.

It is a horror I would not wish on any supporter so even if Sydney finished ninth for the next ten years it is still better than a wooden spoon.

I'm with you Dan24, I would never, ever want my club to finish bottom ever again and like everbody else I am jealous as all buggery about Carltons proud record in this area

cheers

1.i'd rather finish 9th 2 seasons in a row coz i wanna keep our record of never getting the wooden spoon

2. itz tough but i'd rather stay in melborne so i guess i would merge with...
frown.gif
Collingwood

3.i'd like 2 wear the same guernsy for homa and away matches (its less confusing)
4. i'd rather win a premiership then skip a year then win the yuear after coz it proves you are a better team for a longer period of time

blues rule and u know it so don't even try to tell me otherwise!!

Good questions RF#1. Made me think a bit. Here are my answers

1. Finish 16th for one season.

2. Merge with Collingwood

3. Same guernsey

4. Win two premierships with a break in the middle (wasn't sure what to put for that question, not sure why I said that answer)

1) Obviously I would finish 9th two seasons running. Carlton's pride in never finishing last in 104 years of football is just as strong as its 16 flags.

2) Move to Wellington. I could not imagine the Blues as a merged side. I would still support them though. Especially if they merged with Brisbane and moved up here! Besides, I'm a Kiwi, maybe I'll make it back there one day. Certainly give me more incentive to go home (I can hear the cogs turning in a few heads at the prospect of sending a Kiwi home). Probably should go to Auckland though, they could fit in alongside the Auckland Blues Rugby side.

3)Same guernsey. Whereas I can understand the motivation behind becoming the baby blues for one game, I would prefer always having the one guernsey.

4)Hmmm. I guess two in a row. If the inevitable lull was to come after the two in a row and the two in three years had a one season 'rebuilding' lull in the middle and a resurgence after that, I might prefer the later. But two in a row doesn't come easily as history shows.
