Well, to give you some reasons, it isn't normally done, in an offence of a sexual nature. And I know of 2 tv stations here in Brisbane that DIDN'T name him.
That is what lead to my astonishment that Ch7 did. Normally in a case like this, that would lead to legal action!
I agree with you Danni. I didn't think they were very proffesional. Don't like to see that sought of thing. But if he's guilty of the crime I hope they throw the book at him.
This is an unusual circumstance! Usually a rapist isn't a footballer/recently retired footballer. He is in the public light and therefore this will be made public. Remember Carey a few years ago?
Ummm not sure about this but, once you are offically charged by the police then it the name can become public knowledge not while people are 'under investigation' though.
The only time I think when the police or court can surpress a name from becoming public is when it would identify the victim. Which in this case it wouldn't.
Wonder what spin his manager will put on this?
Also a current AFL player must be sleeping a bit nervous tonight too if you can believe the most recent reports.
Just for the record no north melbourne player has ever been charged, found guilty or been convicted of a sexual offence. There is a difference between a summary offence and an indictable offence which may be a sexual offence. Adam Hueskes has been charged with rape which is a serious indictable offence.
Well he made page three of The West over here. They not only said he'd been charged, but that it happened LAST NIGHT (Fri). Ought to get their facts straight.
Assuming there's basis to the charge, I cannot believe he'd be so stupid. He was one of those that had the close call with Scotland yard -right? You'd think he'd learn.
Similar things happen on an all to frequent basis AFL and NRL appear to be the sports, which are often in the centre of the controversy. I guess that the 'god-like' status that many of these sportsmen have attributes to the situation.
I wonder in other countries where other sports assume a higher priority also assume a higher incidence of this kind of thing?
Wasn't there a similar case in English Soccer in the last 12 months? A player just signed to a multi-million dollar deal, accused of something on his bucks night or something? And from memory, he was an Australian wasn't he?
