Went down to Lavo and WOW.....
Finals like crowd down there, the joint was packed, the Anzac Service with the Anzac Logo on the Field was exceptional. Members marquees, they even put on extra shelter for the spectators.
This clubs hospitality and growth and change is unreal.

North Footscray
Caught the last qtr. Solid yesterday by North Footscray, impressive.

I was very impressed, too. I went without any real idea about the place (I know they did it hard a few years ago, but not much beyond that) and was surprised by the turnout, given there were several other games on at the same time.

The game must have blown out badly in the last qtr. When I shot through (about 15min into the 3rd qtr when the rain set in), the margin was only about 50pts (85-35). To that point, Tarneit played nothing like a side with a % of 21 (I didn't check the standings before I went - if I had, I would've gone to NF v WF): they had some good run and carry play (sometimes too much, running into trouble or getting caught), but mostly they had good discipline and played like they thought they could win. A lot of bottom sides look like they're beaten before the opening bounce, but Tarneit didn't. A few Tarneit blokes well outplayed their opponents - especially No.4, though Nos.2 and 24 were also good, imo. I think Laverton underperformed (their coach wasn't happy at 1/4 or 1/2 time), but Tarneit deserve some credit.

Surprised to see Shaydon Bloomfield kick 5 for Lavo? Thought he'd left?

4 games there yesterday, U18s and three senior men's games. New Scoreboard looks good and improvements to rooms underway. Good on Lavo.

The club has always had a fair bit of fan support even when they were struggling to keep their heads above water for 20 years. Proud club to say the least.

Not a D2 team any longer but North Sunshine had a win the thirds, their first win, women and men, for several years.

A few wins will change the mood at the club, might give them some hope. Go North!!

Will be good for them to get a few wins this year.

Given it's their firsts, they will get a few scalps over teams playing their genuine thirds.

Imagine they should knock off Braybrook and Laverton also

From the outside both Glenorden and North Sunshine look to be going about things the right way. Still operating as a football netball/club, as such giving themselves an opportunity to rebuild.

Definitely.

Absolutely not sustainable getting done by 150-300 points in both grades every week. Fair play to them for seeing the season out last year.

Hopefully they can get back with a good junior program

Lavo doing everything right at the moment. Great day and exceptionally well organised. The outside tent was doing a roaring trade, and how good were their Tribute Jumpers. I say, well done and congratulations to all who made the day a special one.

Got to watch half a game of the Falcons and Magpies and it was very clear the Falcons are building a nice age profile list wise, very impressive ball use and pressure around the contest, credit to Nick and Laverton they had a real crack and never gave up and will be a dangerous team if taken lightly.

Can’t see many teams getting anywhere near the Falcons and they have a young and exciting list profile.

Definitely WVales flag to lose having beaten the Suns in R1. Perhaps a rebuilt North Footscray is the only challenger?

No promotion this year so the Vales have another year to build towards D1. Could start by getting an U18s in place for 2026. Massive new area in the Harpley estate out the back of Wyndhamvale.

Saw a bit of Tarneit v Braybrook. Tarneit were less impressive than last week. They defended well in the 1st qtr but didn't have the skills to give their wings / mids a clean possession so they hardly ever got it past half way. They could hold Braybrook when they kept going in close, but once the Brookers fwds started bombing it from 40 or 50m out it blew out badly.

Tarneit don't have much depth (their 2s got hammered) so it will be a tough rebuild. They have some good core players (2, 4, 24 again), some young blokes who will improve and a good supporter base, so they should be able to do it.

What is the go with the coaching set up at Braybrook? Their runner seemed to do more coaching than the coach. If on-field coaching is against the rules (it is in most leagues), the umps should have booted him off.

Whoever was in charge seemed to struggle with the moves. Twice in the second qtr (alone) Braybrook had five blokes on the bench as they couldn't work out who to send back on without infringing the 6-6-6 rule. Hope they don't have day jobs in traffic control...

Runners job is to give 1 message directly on and directly off. Cannot stay on the field. Hopefully the league fines them if true. Umpires should pay a free kick on the 50mt mark if runners don’t follow rules. No warnings straight out free kick from 50.

What does the 50m mark have to do with a runner FK? There's a FK for any official inside the 50 during a kickout, which used to be paid at the centre square, but is now either a 50m penalty or paid at the goal square depending on who offends.

Anyway if the runner is staying idle on the oval pay a free kick. That will teach him the hard way.

Watched a million quarters of footy, AFL, State and local, but I saw something new at Braybrook v Laverton today. The Lavo ruckman picked up a smaller Brooker's player who had the ball to tackle him. The Lavo player swung the Brooker in a 360 degree tackle and the umpire paid a "dangerous" tackle without the Brooker player touching the ground. After the decision, amongst the chuckles, the Lavo player placed the Brooker's player back on the ground to take his kick.

Lavo led all day and were still 4 points up at 3QT, but Braybrook too fit and quick and kicked 8-1 goals in the last quarter. Lavo were on the end of a few tough umpire calls and missed four very kickable goals 35-40 metre goals early in the last but wasted their chances and Brookers were too good.

Laverton lost a legend during the week in Brian Murphy. Former player, coach, president. Life member for the footy and cricket clubs. Last night his boy Ryan pulled on the Laverton jumper for the first time in a number of years as a tribute. How’s the crowd that turned up? Unbelievable

Sad to hear that. Brian played a big role in keeping the doors open for a long time over several decades.

Great crowd last night for a chilly Friday night, good on them.

Went down to watch rams vs cobras, cobras won by 7 but were up by 40, rams shouldve won it, unlucky 2 weeks in a row not to get a win, big ruckman bog
Watched a bit of the Rams last year, have not seen them this year. From what I saw last year i thought they had a tonne of potential. Expect them to win a few more games before the end of the season.
