Well actually I didn't... There was a reason I didn't mention that game. By the way St. Albans were in the contest until the last quarter. But just to name our 6 outs that game: Damien Fitzpatrick, Aaron henneman, Joel west, Tegan Henderson, Peter delink, jarred tuppen.... That's our whole backbone. You take that out of any team in one match and any team will struggle. If you don't know who they are ask because they will tell you they are quality players. But talk is cheap and we are in finals. Up to all teams involved to see how far they can go. Good luck to the final 5
Prediction i love your passion on here, you obviously are a true blue supporter and you promote your club well on this forum.
I agree with you that despite win/loss ratios any team in the top 5 is capable of beating each other on it's day, hopefully this leads to some great games and big crowds over the next month. Personally i rate your club (St Albans) pretty highly and think that they are well balanced on all lines and if they put 4 quarters together are a very tough opponent.
You say you haven't had your best side on the park all year, but who does? Every club has injuries and players who travel o/s or go to the snow etc, and all clubs will go through stages where their depth is tested. That is why making the finals is so rewarding, we overcome obstacles along the journey and at times fight adversity to get there, so well done to all competing teams who qualified in 2013.
This is only my opinion but i think the top 5 teams finished where they belong.
Deer Park: Despite 2 heavy losses have been the best team over 18 rounds, only dropping the 2 games and deserve the week off. They obviously have the talent and although people have been talking/speculating about how much they have spent, not many clubs pay players for finals so they are the ones to beat.
Spotswood: Ever consistent, well drilled and very structured football team. Love them or hate them their record is super impressive over the last 6 yrs and no-one would have had them outside top 3.
Sunshine: Whether pundits think they are the real deal or not they have won 8 of their last 9 games with only loss in back half of the season against Spotty @ Spotty. Beat Altona in the game that decided 3rd in round 18 so deserve their double chance.
Altona: Extremely talented team and reigning premier. No one will underestimate them. Well documented about some players travelling o/s during the course of the season and perhaps this did unsettle them slightly as they dropped a few games most people had penciled in as a W. Their best is good enough but slight inconsistency over past 4 weeks means they defend their title from 4th.
St Albans: Beat Altona twice and that is what was separated them from the clubs outside the 5 and secured them finals football. Playing feature games at night early in the yr backfired and put them on the back foot re:top 3. Recruited strongly in off-season and had high expectations. As stated definitely capable and have the talls at both ends to match it against the other finalists.
This was my first post in quite some time and I hope it perhaps can generate some genuine discussion about WRFL football.
Another opinion of mine is that this site is so quiet now because too many use it to take a swipe at clubs and or individual players etc. If you enjoy a bit a friendly banter or some football gossip let's use this forum properly and have some legitimate discussions, share opinions, have tipping comps, reviews of matches we can't attend etc etc.....If that could happen I for 1 would happy to post more often and share my thoughts.
Good luck to all clubs & players in all divisions.
BJ
