So are players playing for free this week in line with AFL Victoria & WRFL recommendations.

Surely every player will do the right thing for this club?

It is a recommendation not a rule, if you are playing away shouldn't effect you as you aren't losing any revenue from Bar/Canteen this week.

Why are you paying players in third division WRFL?

Blokes think they deserve money to play sport these days because they could be working instead apparently.

If div 3 teams didnt pay they either wouldnt field teams or they would be the level of the teams that already don’t pay a lot.

My personal experience has me believe Div 3 should be basically amateur footy with maybe fees paid for but that will never happen with today’s generation that think their time is valuable and they want to be compensated for the hours they can’t be on social media or gaming

This is why we can’t compete against soccer in this area.

Clubs can’t survive because of paying for all the fees and players.

Do you know how expensive it is to play Soccer?

Player numbers are dwindling because today’s Gen just aren’t into sport like previous generations.

They aren’t leaving to go and play soccer they just aren’t playing sport at all.

I’d like to see the figures you’re basing that on.
If you check the amount of clubs there is for senior soccer compared to Aussie rules then I think you’ll apologise asap

Soccer is growing due to multicultural society percentage growing. Both are increasing at near the same rate and it’s not as fast as the AFL rate is declining.

It’s also growing due to parents not wanting their kids to play contact sports.

Soccer also has costs between $500-700 per year where football is $100-$300 on average.

These are stats but the Australian institute of sport but much like Newport you know more than anyone else so meh

Woman’s AFL and cricket are the fastest growing sports by % in Oz by a country mile

Years ago my son wanted to play soccer 15 years ago so we joined Hoppers. $450 for a seven year old back then. Just looked them up - sheeeit.

Still $450 for the seven year olds, once they start playing unders its $650. It's also peer-pressure compulsory to have the family or social membership too.
Ressies $350 and seniors $0.

Hell, I thought WRFL club juniors were a cash cow for the seniors... whoa.

Love the $0 fees for seniors, just milk the juniors dry for them. Its an absolute joke

You’re going in circles.

I was never talking about Juniors, I was talking about senior footy and you know that as we’re in a senior football thread.

Check the clubs in each competition like I said and give me the figures not just more rhetoric.

You do realise that there are double the number of players in an AFL team so would need to be double the amount of soccer clubs to even out right?

You said we can’t compete with soccer. Why do we need to compete with Soccer? It’s been a bigger sport for over a decade and that has zero to do with any garbage reason you made up.

We are an immigrant country where most of our new arrivals come from cricket or soccer countries and take the sport up when they arrive here. Has zero to do with soccer taking AFL players. There would be absolutely f&ck all players at senior level leaving AFL to play soccer or vice versa.

AFL and soccer do not compete head to head as their core players are from seperate demographics.

Much like your Newport rant you won’t answer the questions asked so keep flapping.

You are trying to advocate a sport that rips off its kids to give its seniors free sport and payments at all SENIOR LEVELS. It’s exactly the same as paying players

And google tells me there are a total of 355 OUTDOOR soccer clubs in Victoria. That counts senior, junior, and woman’s.
That figure is from Football Victoria which anyone can check.

I can’t find an exact number for AFL teams but wiki lists 707 current AFL clubs in Victoria.

Total participation for AFL in Vic 474,633
Total participation for soccer in Vic 456,604

Both figures are 2019. The last year we had of uninterrupted sport and the soccer figure includes fusbal numbers.

Soooooooooo you are just wrong, Again.

Correct also saw Donaldson from
Glenorden to Albanvale. Good pickups By both clubs. Let’s hope we have a really tight back end of the year.

Just head down to any basketball stadium on a Saturday, this is the boom junior sport. As a parent it is easy you don't need 5-6 volunteers each week to field a side 1 coach and a scorer, indoors in and out with in an hour. This is the issue, volunteers, AFL has a massive reliance on Volunteers, outside coaches, trainer, team manager, Goal Umpire, Boundary Umpire, most weeks field umpire as league doesn't have enough for Juniors, team manager, umpire escort, Match day Manager. Then add in Canteen/Committee, that's a lot of people to get a side on the park and people aren't interested

I think basketball has always been pretty big at junior level hasn’t it?

For you being wrong?
You showed figures for the sport not Senior Soccer and Football.
Just give up you’re edging towards being manic.

Lol the senior participation in AFL is so more in than soccer

Soccer destroys AFL in junior participation in Victoria.

You are wrong and are the type of person that will never admit it.

75988 registered senior men’s soccer players in Victoria 2019. Official Football Vic figure

176345 registered senior men’s AFL players in Victoria in 2019. Official VFL figure
