Watched Fruhvirtova against Teichmann, very good win, another top 50 scalp. She has a lot of maturity on court. Took a bathroom break end of the second set, of course, and came out firing in the 3rd. She played a little more aggressive in this one, hit with good depth too. Serve is an issue though, 9 DF’s, and that second serve is so weak. Any really good player will just tee off on it. Still, she’s having a good year at only 17.

Just finished Bouchard, she surprised me. Opposition wasn’t very flash but still, considering her lack of tour matches and wins, it was impressive. She hit quite well off both wings, serve was very solid. A nice confidence booster, has Rakhimova next, great opportunity for both to reach a QF. On what I saw I’d give the edge to Genie.

She has a great draw but I'll say this she needs to not overplay. She needs to really work on that serve it's horrible, you are not going far with a Kournikova serve nowadays. Spend an entire off season on it, it's the second ball that's the issue not the first one, it's too floaty and middle box and therefore she's on the defence and against the top players it won't work

I agree, she’s got to monitor her schedule and not overplay, but I guess she’s been picking up wins here and there rather than making any real deep runs. Got to like her fight and fire, tour definitely needs players like her.

Watched Badosa, she played very well, I think she wins here and turns her pretty disastrous season around.

Lisicki was very hit and miss. Lost 6-4, 6-4 to a pretty vanilla opponent. Nice warm greeting at the net, I think she’s just happy competing and being fit. Some great winners but just so many UE’s.

Watched Avanesyan vs Errani. Hard to focus on the tennis when Elina is playing, ridiculously beautiful. Could be a model if she decides tennis isn’t worth it. Anyway, she played very well but man Errani is completely cooked. And she was seeded 5th! Some of the moon ball rallies were incredible. As soon as someone popped up a moon all, they would trade them for 5-6 shots. Funny stuff. Avanesyan won 6-1, 6-0. When she’s confident she can actually play some very good tennis. Should probably win her next match too, a delight for everyone.

No comment on Avanesyan we all have seen the Instagram lol.

Sabine played okay she’s just not the Lisicki of the past and that’s okay I’ve accepted that. Be happy if she gets a win or two at Wimbledon and retires there.

Fruity has a winnable match this morning be interesting to see how she goes. I haven’t seen much of Badosa really.

Who’s Fruity?

Linda Fruhvirtova?

Yes, Drummond knows. It's short (and what she's called on the tennis forums lol). They are sisters lol the young one Brenda is the better one potentially, Linda tries but I've been saying it all year you can't have a Kournikova serve in todays game. Think she's got something like 17 matches THIS SEASON with 10+ double faults, it's a huge issue. Everything else is good but she's on the defensive all the time on her second ball. Needs 6 months to go away and work on that serve, it's the one thing stopping her being a top 20 player.

Yeah that serve is horrible. Lands so short, always puts her on the defensive as you said. I think I maybe overrated her at the AO. She’s solid, incredible fighter, but does she have the firepower? Unless she improves the serve she has no chance of winning big titles. Definite top 20/30 player but a few glaring deficiencies.

Bad loss for Kenin, good wins for Bencic and Badosa. Kudermetova’s form this year has been horrible, shocking loss yesterday. Rakhimova beat Bouchard in a terribly scrappy match.

Needs a good off season to work on that serve . It won’t worry sorry but the game has changed you need an adequate serve.

Good win for Bencic, struggled early but found her form as the match wore on.

Linette/Keys about to start, hopefully it’s a close match.

Kalinskaya continues her decent year, progressing through to quarters.

Avanesyan back down to earth with a woeful loss to Stearns who with that major top spin FH, she might actually win this.

Check out the contrasting quality of fields for the semis in Charleston and Bogota.

A rare instance of the top 4 seeds making the semis.

Can you believe one of these is going to win a title? I like Stearns to win this, but I’m hoping for Rakhimova.

Jabeur beats Kasatkina. Pegula and Bencic off for a rain delay which will likely prevent anymore play for today. Bencic took the first 7-5 and the second is in a TB with Pegula up 4-2.

Maria wins the first SF in Bogota and Rakhimova and Stearns have finally resumed after a lengthy rain delay. Rakhimova up 5-3.

Tough day at the office for Bencic. Finishes off her close match with Pegula and an hour or so later loses a tight match vs Jabeur in the final.
And I heard on the broadcast she has split with Dimitri Tursuniv. “Mutual” decision its being called, odd as they made such an outstanding start to the year together.

Meanwhile Maria defends her title in Bogota. The ranking of the players she beat were: 161, 239, 206, 817, 116. Just crazy.

Stuttgart:

Incredibly strong field for a 500. Swiatek returns, Jabeur hot off her title in Charleston, Aussie Open champ Sabalenka, IW champ Rybakina, it’s a great field. Gauff/Kudermetova, Krejcikov/Samsonova and Ostapenko/Raducanu are first round matches, wow. Potapova faces tour veteran Martic who qualified by beating Lisicki; would’ve been nice to see Sabine play at home. Pots is surely one of the more exciting drawcards in the game right now, love watching her play. She and Kudermetova actually teaming up in the doubles and had a great win against top seeds Ostapenko and Kichenok.

Worth noting a W100k tournament this week in Portugal has a ridiculously strong field. Bouzkova, Noskova, Blinkova, Svitolina, Errani, Bouchard, Sherif, Andreeva (okay probably not in their league but still!), and other big names. Loaded! There was going to be a tournament in Istanbul this week so I guess this unofficially became a 250 tournament without the title.

Good, gritty win by Potapova last night against Martic. She won 7-6 in the third. Martic is always tricky and she was very relieved to get through, letting out a big scream as she won.

Ostapenko destroyed Raducanu 6-2, 6-1 in 59 minutes. Ostapenko was insanely good, the hitting was on another level. If she plays that way she’d beat anyone. She plays Jabeur tonight in what is a loaded schedule. Pliskova/Sakkari on now, Gauff/Kudermetova next, Rybakina, and Krejcikova/Sabalenka.

Another big scalp for Potapova, this time taking down Garcia. Consecutive wins against top 10 opponents; it seems she’s destroyed to end up there herself in the not to distant future. Plays Sabalenka next in what will hopefully be a good contest.

In the other SF it’s a USO rematch, Swiatek vs Jabeur. Great match-ups!

Or destined.
Yeah, or that haha!

Anyone heard the rumour that the WTA won’t allow top 30 players to enter 250 events from next year? Seems utterly ridiculous. Feel sorry for those small tournaments who rely on the 1-2 big names they can draw to boost attendances and buzz. The WTA is so far behind the ATP is crazy.

Swiatek vs Sabalenka in the final starting now, should be awesome.

Elsewhere Erika Andreeva’s 15 y/o youngster sister Miira has just won her second straight ITF title. She’s going to be good, better talent than Erika. Better mover and cleaner hitter.

I haven't but that is a terrible call if they do that.

Think that was a huge win for Swiatek. If Sabelenka cant beat her at the indoors clay at Stuttgart, I struggle with how she will at Roland Garros.

Of course, Clay is the best surface for Swiatek. Reckon she will win 5-6 Roland Garros by the end of her career

I don't know why they would have to ban top 30 players from 250s anyway. The WTA is so two tiered and the prize money concentrated. Naturally they all chase the cash at the big tournaments compared to the men who spread around the smaller tournaments much more where the prize money drop off is not as steep comparatively.

Loved the final between Swiaktek and Sabalenka. Swiatek just bossed her around the court. Her forehand was fantastic, her serve to me is still a bit iffy and it was indoors. I also like the way she celebrates the occasion not afraid to show her joy. Loved how Swiatek drove the car as well. Last year after her win she didn't even have her licence. Don't mind if Swiatek doesn't win Madrid would prefer her winning Rome and French. Glad there is a few days break from tennis as I can watch other things and pace myself for the next three tournaments.
