I just heard on the radio that many Chinese are now returning home and bringing the virus back. A second wave has begun in China.

The issue in HK is more the expat westerners who initially fled to England, Europe (France mainly), US and Australia have now returned realising HK is safer and continued to go about their ways pre-corona i.e. going to the gym and parting in LKF. 50 new cases in one day yesterday. All this after it was controlled.

Yeah they thought it was just the seasonable flu & allowed it to get out of control. Include that with the ageing population, population density, culture of smoking (respiratory issues), social culture & this..

I have a theory that the two different means of transmission create two very different types of disease: fomite (surfaces), tends to enter through the mouth, confined to sinuses, throat, etc, produces mild symptoms. And aerosol - breathed in deep in to the lungs, causes the more severe form of disease that results in death. So children and younger adults who are around kids get the first form, while older adults get the latter. I base this on nothing other than children being disgusting and putting everything in their mouth.

Ffs go and have a beer and relax. If they don’t do anything now our hospitals will be swamped more than Italy. A number of doctors in Italy have died. 8% of those infected are health workers. 110 of 600 doctors in Bergamo are sick. That would get worse if they do nothing.

You flood hospitals even more and you will have some younger patients no longer being prioritised as more and more beds are taken up. You would get a shitload more deaths.

Govts can intervene and support people. Your fear of total anarchy is unfounded.

These wet markets are out in the open, clear as day and the authorities don't lift a finger to stop it. So either the authorities are ignoring the letter of the law or they're actually legal. They may have put restrictions at some point but it seems they have eased on that.

thats what i said, local cops dont shut them down - like they dont shut down knock shops, gambling joints, strippers and so on.

fwiw ive heard that attitude has changed. my wifes province doesnt do the wet markets, but the re-emphasis of the ban is getting a fair bit of coverage on tv (and thats usually a sign beijing is cracking skulls and its flavour of the month)

As I have already stated, all businesses closing is not a scenario that will occur thus it’s moot point. Banks are already reducing covenants & freezing loan repayments plus there is current government support & anticipated additional support.
