Victoria is 11.
In terms of ICU numbers the one that is a little concerning and sticks out a little is WA. 18 in ICU with Covid when supposedly their capacity in total is only 162. That’s already 1 in 9 beds...

They have plenty of dough and rich corps, so it's time some of that was utilised to promptly double that number.

Our icu numbers went from 3 to 14 in one day because of Germans from the German cruise ship Artania and a few more Germans have joined them.WA has at least 60 Germans from the German cruise ship with no Australians on board that invited itself in in our number of infected and there are potentially 400 more quarantined on the ship so our numbers will keep growing because of the Germans and their crew of cheap Phillapinos and Indonesians who wont go away

Sounds like the CSIRO ..... we are dedicated to get a scientist of every color and religion, we are dedicated to fighting racism - viruses not so much .....
It’s rife through the sciences and engineering. Doesn’t matter so much for non-critical stuff like particle physics or geology, but for things like public health or engineering, the focus on this kind of nonsense is disastrous.

There will be some elements of lockdown for 12 months at least, but certain things will be either restricted or relaxed depending on the course of the outbreak.
Can see all international arrivals being forced to isolate for at least 12 months or until a vaccine is ready. If Australia can get on top of it most other restrictions would most likely be relaxed

The Covid-19 crisis has once again demonstrated just how insane anti-vaccers are.

Apparently sales of electric cars are holding firm when the rest of the market has tanked. It's possibly the same demographic as anti-vaxxers. Greens voters who have a government paid job.

I had to read that a couple of times to realise you didn’t mean each person isolated for 12 months .

International arrivals can be tested within a few days of arrival. Released from confinement if negative and treated like everyone else.

Lol this sounds like you're conflating climate change with anti vax.

Is that what you're going for?

This twitter thread is brutal

Did it ever occur to you or to Roko that tweets like that are to encourage more students from diverse backgrounds to try out for STEM subjects and steer their careers towards that kind of research? It's about positive role models serving as a kind of advertising for the field.

And don't forget - everyone was behind on this one. EVERYONE. Military biotech. Civilian biotech. Every field, every sector. Even the sharpest minds on the planet are playing catch-up.

If daily cases are still at about 30, and we relax the restrictions, the exponential curve will start up again. Gotta wait until they are much lower than that, and all contact testing is rigorous.

I would like to be seeing some evidence about which restrictions are having an effect before they are either relaxed or tightened.

Yeah there's no evidence if our restrictions at all yet. Most of our cases were imported and our cases numbers were declining before the full effect of our restrictions anyway.

So we can be even less prepared for the next pandemic? Great. It’s not important to be effective in your job, it’s far more important to be marketing diversity and inclusion.

This is not true, countries that don’t mess around with this nonsense like Singapore or South Korea we’re onto it immediately.

But even if it was true it just shows how degraded our institutions are.

Looking at the table at the bottom, its interesting that the % of cases being hospitalised is mostly below 10% when evidence from elsewhere suggests 20% of cases get hospitalised.

I wonder if that is because of how much contact tracing and testing is done here compared to elsewhere.

The number of people in ICU in NSW that aren't requiring a ventilator is also interesting for a respiratory illness

You are drawing a hysterical conclusion on the basis of a single tweet.

Say that today, it was announced a safe and effective vaccine has been developed. With the right public and private funding, how long would it take to vaccinate every person in the world?
Considering we still can't vaccinate everyone in the world for polio, and a vaccine for that has been available for decades...

I don't know if anyone has posted this but I thought this was pretty funny:

People in powerful positions shouldn't spread dangerous falsehoods. I don't know how Hannity or Trump can spin their way out of this. Their idiocy has been documented and broadcast.

The US response to Corona virus has been a complete and absolute disaster. It's what happens when you put the greedy, ignorant and stupid in charge. Leading the world in cases, gosh, so much winning.
