COVID vaccines are very effective and will open up overseas travel, or maybe not

I hate how they ran with that headline and then a few paragraphs later they say "oh yeah, they probably weren't fully vaccinated". Just looking for any angle they can to scare people.

0 COVID deaths in England. First time in about 10 months.
Slightly cautious as that’s probably a Sunday number, but they’ve been trending that way strongly.

Until recently the British Covid response has been a rolling clown show but credit where it’s due, their vaccine rollout has been outstanding.

Do you understand what 95 percent effective means? It means 1 in 20 still get it if they come into contact. 95 percent still make it one of the most effective vaccines of all time.

Except ofcourse the past 18 months shows it clearly has a major impact.

Going from around 8,000 cases a day to under 100 in a few months is pretty dramatic and seems to indicate something else though. Maybe that has happened in other countries with a a change of season. Are there reports of that? I’d be interested to see. Would love for it to happen here.

They were two other cases last month who caught it within 14 days of their second dose, so the other cases were supposedly all fully vaccinated...

Try reading it properly before you call it wrong...

Does the vaccine know how to tell the time and date? I would have thought immunity levels would be as infinitely variable as humans are from each other.

‘they probably caught it in hotel quarantine, like the guy who tested positive after 2 weeks in quarantine

why isn’t this at the top of the list.HQ not only isn’t working, it’s causing infections

This guy was able to dodge coronavirus in India, return home to Australia, and then caught it in HQ.

So is the issue India or hotel quarantine?

Where are people getting this idea from that vaccines are meant to completely stop anyone from getting the virus once vaccinated?

That is never how they have worked. The flu vaccine does not work like that.

The AstraZeneca vaccine was found to have a 62% efficacy in trials which equates to about a real world effectiveness of about 50%.

The only answer is to extend hotel quarantine to a month instead of two weeks. 🙄
Negative pressure rooms in HQ is a start - this is already in place in Victoria.
Giving any unvaccinated travellers their first dose of the vaccine would also be a good idea. It won’t provide full protection, but it will provide decent protection towards the end of their 14 days, which is when an infection would be let out into the public.
The next step would be dedicated outdoor facilities, though this is not feasible everywhere.
