Meltzer should take a massive victory lap. doesn't mean his (numerous) other mistakes are null and voided, but he was on the money here.
reported it many months ago and Rock publicly denied it, although he did acknowledge that if Rock's availability changed the company would be all in.I don't hate him like most of the net does, but most of his 'news' sounds like they're just stabs in the dark. Not genuine inside info. Sounds like more of a broken clock is right twice a day situation. Did he actually say he had legit inside info?
Every decision maker at WWE should be tied to a chair & forced to listen to Travis Scott's "music" for eternity
A missed opportunity at the press conference
You’re on the money with this. Don’t know how it plays out but if they can figure it out it could be fun.I was just watching Triple H in the post show trying to defend/clarify his comments on the internet fans. I wonder if I didn't give him enough credit (or maybe now I'm giving him too much).
He's ragging on the internet on the same night that Cena debuted the black tshirt - the venerated symbol of smarky internet fans - and made good on his promise to kill wrestling.
This is the storyline. And that crowd today is exactly what they wanted. The smarky crowd that cheered Cena, the crowd that, in Triple H's mind, bitch and moan because wrestling will never be as good as it was when they were a kid.
They're going to lean into these smarky Cena-loving elements of the audience, he's going to slowly change things that lean into that crowd, while maintaining his promise to the kill wrestling for the broader, casual "mark" element. He becomes the symbol of those fans who never believe that wrestling will ever be as good again with the "last real champion" schtick... which is some inception level irony when you consider how those exact fans treated him forever.
It could be really intriguing if they can figure out all the threads.

This one was even featured in the pre match promo IIRC.

Storyline is never a good excuse for terrible television.
My partner and support worker aren’t Internet wrestling fans. They see it very differently from me — they just watch it as a regular TV show, exactly the kind of audience Triple H seems to be chasing these days.
And both of them thought tonight was garbage. They even pointed out how much more interesting Night One was. For context: my support worker is pretty "meh" on Rollins, loves Roman, and knows I’ve been a Punk fan since way before his first WWE run even though she couldn't really care either way (she doesn't understand the power of him coming back means). They’re actually invested in that story. And neither of them care about seeing Cena going forward.
If WWE is fine catering only to casual fans who show up for the big events at the expense of their weekly audience, then sure — tonight was a perfect ad for that.
But it’s not something Netflix or any of their TV partners should feel good about
It also goes against the basic tenets of good events - send the home with something interesting if you can't send them home happy. It's a key part of what helped make night one's main event so good.
Thinking its part of the story is big time copium.
You need to be able to distinguish 1 match from the storyline that it's about to feed into. I reject your premise that anyone is giving an excuse for bad television, and I reject your premise that this is bad television and will continue to be.
How would you all feel if The Rock turns up tomorrow ?
I’m with nobbyiscool regarding his comment about it looks like the angle they are running with him will be anti wrestling / IWC style where Cena specifically stated “ you will get nothing” No entrance no new theme song and that he is going to ruin wrestling.
Does the finish fit in with that ? Everyone wanted or expected a big angle with the Rock and never got it.
I don't know why you think a Triple H interview on a post show, or a Cena heel character that leans into internet smarks is giving "a good excuse for terrible television."
In actuality it does the exact opposite, it's a kind of heel turn with a level of inception that we've never seen before.

If you disagree that my premise is that the main event was bad television are you saying that it was good?
The products been bad for months now. It's not because its secretly good in ways that none of us can understand.
