He's no Dale Thomas, that's for sure.
No, he'll go on to be more than just a flash in the pan, showpony.

And in other news today, a small child was fatally crushed when he accidentally strayed onto the keyboard of a Tasmanian Collingwood supporter.

Ellis has also been compared to Dal Santo - moreso in the looks department though

And for the record - i would have taken ellis before thomas - ellis is all class and will eventually dominate on the half back flank, thomas is just a goalsneak - i was definitely frustrated when we took thomas in the draft ahead of xav

He does look a bit like Power, yes.

If you saw him when drafted youd know hes already bulked up an absolute s hitload. If he can get some game time, he'll be more than valuable..

Thomas will move into the midfield eventually and be a dominating force

I haven't seen Ellis play until yesterday. What is he good at? I assume by looking at him that he is a outside midfielder HBF type. Would that be correct?

Disposal and poise.

Is likened to Dal Santo in a way, the way he gets space then uses it well. Struggling with the pace of the game at the moment, but has mountains of time in front of him, will be a good player.

Just a memo to Collingwood fans:

You picked Thomas before we picked Ellis, so it should be said that Thomas is better than Ellis.

Ellis will end up being a much better player than Thomas.

Looks like Collingwood just wanted to pick a player that would excite their fans. Obviously talent wasn't very high on their priority list, otherwise they would've picked Ellis.

Based on what?

Thomas was influencing games in his first year, taking hangers and kicking goals in front of 80,000 people on the MCG whilst Ellis was studying for his school pop quiz.

Thomas has shown continued development and genuine attack on the ball, despite his frame. Ellis has been hidden away because of his frame.

What I saw of Ellis on the weekend was a very skinny kid who was unsure on his feet and didn't really know how to adapt to the pace of AFL footy. I'm sure he'll be better for the experience, but there was nothing there to suggest that he's going to outstage Thomas any time soon.

I'll be the first to admit I was unsure of the Thomas selection at first, but I've been proved wrong. He's a beauty. Along with Pendlebury, I think we've done very well with our top picks.

Ahh nothing like a bit of contradiction to make someone look the fool. Ellis was unseen last year because of his school commitments as you hinted in one breath - not because of his size as you hint in the next breath you goose.

I must say I like watching Thomas play but Ellis was always touted as a higher pick than Thomas and the general concensus amongst footy experts is that Ellis will back that up with time.;)

sounds like someone trying very hard to convince themself that Ellis will be crap hahaha.:D

Nope, I've already said he could be good - who would know based on his showing thus far?

I'm just pointing out that whilst he was sharpening his pencils and laminating his text books, Thomas was pulling down hangers in front of capacity crowds.

That's all. :)

Or if we're going to make unfounded trolls on the main board, in true Collingwood style, Thomas didn't care about his Year 12 studies, while, in true Hawthorn style, Ellis did.

Because Thomas never played a quiet game in his entire career?

Wonders never cease, a BigFooty troll writing off a player after one game. More to the point, a BigFooty troll writing off a player that has the potential to make his club look stupid for not selecting him after one game.
