We can all agree that the Wii is the loser.

yeah, it was a pretty crushing defeat. Nintendorks weren't expecting much..... just one or two hardcore games..... a kid icarus perhaps or something new from Retro Studios.

but to have nothing.....then have Reggie insult us with animal crossing....... :(

Furthermore Wiimusic so far looks wayyyy too simplistic to even hold the attention of casual gamer for long. I hope they have more up their sleeve than what they've shown so far.

but there is still hope........ and it was a pretty risky move by Nintendo no doubt. The new motionplus addon.

Whether or not Microsoft was really going to annouce their support for motion control at this e3 or it was just all smokes and mirrors..... Nintendo has effectively defended their position as the sole console with motion controls. I think it'll be a stupid move by either HD consoles to follow suit with copies because there is no advantage anymore. There was only room to attack when Nintendo's wiimote still had their precision problems.

but that leaves Nintendo in a very risky position. If the majority of their current console owners don't see the motionplus as a desirable upgrade...... they have effectively segmented their market detrimentally leaving 3rd party developers in a heap of trouble in deciding whether to support the addon or not.

Thats where Wii sports resort comes in.....and it could go either way.

Wiiplay is perhaps one of the greatest scams in videogaming history...... they've packaged a tech demo with a controller for ten dollars more and sold millions of them. The only reason they get away with it is because the controller is a desired product and the game wasn't expensive enough to insult the consumer's intelligence too much.

If they could price Wii sports resort competitively in this manner and compile a lineup of first party and third party games to take advantage of the more precise control..there is still a year till release... they could create a big enough market for the addon to become a standard feature and maybe lengthen the life of the Wii console by a couple of years.

A star wars game..... perhaps that clone wars lightsaber game would probably help alot.

Why weren't these things announced together? Just 1 killer app to make use of the plus, or have they run out of ideas for the gimmick already?

Wow, this FF13 news is fantastic news for Sony.

Xbox are clearly trying to make sure the North American Final Fantasy fans don't switch over to PS3, and on the surface this move makes a lot of sense.

Unfortunately, the end result is that the consumer is going to start wondering why the game is infinitely better on ONE PS3 BR disc, than it is on 10+ 360 DVD discs. And then they'll wonder why the PS3 gets FF13 Versus as well.

In all seriousness, this generation is quite clearly becoming the one of limited exclusives, cross platform games are the rule, not the exception, these days. Can't say it's terrible to see, the more people that can buy FF the better. Plus it makes up for PS3 getting Bioshock, and leaves the door open for a PC version of FF13.

The saddest thing for Nintendorks, is that just when Nintendo as a company starts winning again - it completely abandons all its hardcore fanbase.

I don't whether its hubris....... or that Nintendo has gotten too used to not having third party support......but they really need to organise their shit together.

maybe they were scared by Microsoft's supposed embrace of motion control at e3 and were forced to show their hand without the software support ready yet.

They had the strangest lineup of third party games at their conference......... Call of duty 5? wtf? why show a multiplatform game where you are at a disadvantage to your competitors. If mad world was too violent for their sensitivities? how bout de blob

its no gimmick..... its what the original wiimote should have been but the technology was then not cheap enough to take advantage of.
The wiimote is basically complex enough for pointing (great for fps) and simple gestures (great for arcade games...terrible for simulations)

If they can defend their domain as the premier console for motion controls..... there is room for a new avenue to differentiate themselves from their competitors ...... precise motion control simulations in sporting games, brawlers or any assorted action games.

how much better would top spin 3 be if it had precise controls which could accurately detect topspin slice backhand forehand effectively despite the graphical disadvantage.

what hubris for your return post kp? :)

even the Sony CEO admitted he was surprised by the decision.

when your biggest remaining third party exclusive is taken from under your nose...... its not "fantastic news"

Yeah, if you're Sony it sucks. But me personally? Could give ten shits.

Exclusivity is meaningless if you own both a PS3 and 360. :D

I don't see the problem.

I'll still be able to play FFXIII.....it wont impact on me at all.

As for the movies; I doubt you'll be able to download movies/TV for free. In any case, it's a pretty useless feature. Bigpond movies achieves the same result, nobody uses that really.

Not the point of the thread. If you want to talk games that distinguise between the systems then you gotta talk exclusives.

Considering PS3 fanboys have been pumping up FF as a, how did they put it 'AAA' exclusive it is pretty big news that yet another title has jumped ship from the PS exclusive lists and either become multiplatform.

karl you seriously are an idiot saying the 360 version of ff13 will be 10 disks. seriously get off sony's **** already.

That's my prediction. FF games are notoriously huge in space, and graphically FF13 looks amazing, and will no doubt have a shitload of cut scenes.

At the LEAST I expect it to rival Metal Gear Solid 4, which means you're looking at 6 or 7 360 discs, minimum.

It just really evens it up after Bioshock got announced for PS3.

There's rumours of Mass Effect being ported down the line too.

IF you want to make it entirely about exclusives only, lets look at the 360's list of genuine high quality exclusive titles (Halo 3 does not count, it is shite):

Mass Effect

*cough*

Yeah, not really. Bioshock is old news. It's already sold it's fair share of 360s, and has been played for nearly a year now, and who knows how long before it comes out on PS3? FF is a simultaneous release - and will sell more on the 360 anyway. It was a wise decision, and Sony understand that. Just as they will if MGS4 sales don't push on.

Now we take a look at the PS3s list of quality exclusives (MGS4 doesn't count, as it's more of a movie for animu dorks):

lost odysey had 4. i doubt ff would have more then that. plus so what if it's on multiple disks. atleast you don't have to wait like half an hour until you can play it. just swap the cd and bang you continue. it just as if your changeing games.

it beats paying two hundred dollars for a bluray drive when you just want to play videogames.

also the game data of MGS4 was confirmed to be around 30 gigs, so its not much different to lost oddysey's 4 discs and thats not taking into account the space that could be saved with proper compression.

also the space saved by not needing redundant data on the disc.
