Having dedicated servers that can just create themselves as needed is a pretty big upgrade from the current model it must be said. It means that now at least that XBL Gold fee is going towards something tangible as opposed to the current model, which is a complete con.
The next step would be to somehow make those servers customisable in the hands of "admins" or something analogous to current dedicated server admins that would let you customize the server to your own rules, set passwords, kick/ban players and things of that nature. Maybe they can charge an extra fee for a permanent server with adjustable settings for clans and help bring proper clan play to consoles. Renting out VOIP servers would also be beneficial for everyone and help promote clan gaming.
Also, I don't know what Sony's plan is for dedicated servers, but they would want to be doing something comparable (perhaps through Amazon's servers or other cloud operators?), because peer-2-peer gaming flat out sucks; gamers have been playing online with dedicated servers in droves since Quake 1 in 1996. Direct connections should never have been a thing in games with more than 4 players or so. Especially not in the consoles of 2005/2006.
