anyone got the pc version and having trouble downloading the new patch?????? mine keeps stalling despite fast internet connection....cant play the game until it is finished. very frustrating

Having the same problem at the moment, 45 mins ago it said that it would take about 3 mins...........still over a min to go.

I've spent since 10am today playing and it's a great remake. I'm mid way through an alien base invasion and it's bloody hard going. Got to go to bed, my brain is fried, but I know I'll be seeing half and full cover when I close my eyes.

Oh and word from the wise, I'd hold off on cleaning out any alien bases until you've got plasma rifles. It's taking me three shots to down a chrysalid four legged stalkly evil dice your team to pieces alien. And that sucks when you've got three of the bastards running at you at a time. I'm shooting these suckers point blank and they take it and put a claw through my soldiers stomach.

I've only managed to survive by funnelling them into a choke point then blasting all three of them with a rocket launcher.

Save and save often.

thanks, will get moving on the Plasma rifles.

as for saving, Im playing on the auto save mode...so once my soldiers are dead they stay dead

Good to see it's not just me struggling. I am lowering difficulty till I get some better weapons & armour.

Up to heavy Plasma Rifles and fighting elite mutons, which have about 20 HP. Also hard to hit. Found the best way is to have your heavy on suppression fire, the heavy plasma rifles the guys carry take 15 dam off you each time.

I also have a couple of PSI guys in my team now, so mind flaying is good. Tip, mind flay does more damage against enemies who's weapon is psychic. Attacking mutons seems to just make them more angry.

Also, dont be afraid to drop back to bring them to you.

Will be on tonight trying to build more Heavy Plasma guns, gonna need em.

The key is to not advance the story line research as the game gets harder according to that...hence, just research weapons and armor etc... and ignore the scientist "priority research" until you are ready to roll. Once you get the 2-3X snipers lvled up and in the arch angel suits things get easier ;)

Also, satellites need to be your focus. Get them up and panic decreases, and funding increases. Take a hit on the gear for a bit and go for the satellites if you can handle being underpowered in the battles.

Also, I agree with Balony except there is an *. I'm going to spoiler it just in case you don't want to know and kind of want to figure this stuff out for yourself, but
the alien base assault, whilst progressing the story and leaving you with stronger enemies to fight also brings down a bunch of panic in all the member states, which at that point in the game will likely be looking pretty nasty.

It seems to have failed a spotcheck.

Anyone playing the xbox version? I played the first one and Terror From the Deep on PS1. This is truly legendary. It's like they've kept everything the same that made the game compelling and thrown a fresh coat of paint at it. Absolutely loving the battles. I'm not sure where the end is but I've got satellites everywhere and am in the process of constructing a hypersomething or other.. surely can't be too far away. I never want it to end.

luckily it has a fair bit of replay value. Think it is getting some dlc's too :thumbsu:

Can't believe there's no thread on this.

Got it yesterday, it's amazing. Anyone who played the old XCOM games will be stoked with it, its basically just an updated version, with a few new things. Very intense game during missions, be prepared for a lot of your favourite squaddies to die.

Turn based strategy game, with resource management etc as well. Give it a try, trust me it's the best game this year for mine.

Hi Louis, there is a thread but it's like on page 3.

I agree that it's the best game of the year so far, but I'm on a break at the moment as I have rage quit/deleted no less than 11 ironman games so far and have not come close to clocking it.

This is fine since all the quits were due to my impatience/incompetence. However I do need a spell from it as it was mentally breaking me.

Will get back into it in another week or two.

Have you managed to beat it?

I only got it yesterday, haven't stopped playing the whole time. I searched for XCOM on the forum, no luck. Bah anyway.

I'm playing on medium first, and its still really hard. Sucks losing your favourite squaddies and such, but I'm delaying my assault on the alien base so I can skill up a few teams worth of d00ds.

The original is the reason I'm not a doctor. I spent hundreds of hours, including regular all-night sessions on it. It's probably the only game I've been so completely addicted to that life starts getting in the way.

I'm too scared to get the new one, if it's as good as people say, I might forget to feed my kids for a few days.

Have been very keen on this since it came out. Hoping to pick it up soon enough. Have heard so many good things and nearly everyone I know who has played it has heaped praise on it. Apart from the few that find it too hard.

Its damned addictive. Like I said I bought it Thursday night, and according to Steam I've racked up 18 hours already.

such a good game. Have played less the last two weeks, but its the type of game you just want to keep coming back to.

Finished it a few weeks ago. Seemed a bit short but I think I may have had a dream run. Did there end up being any dlc besides uniforms?

Was at a bit of a loss so bought a copy of Borderlands 2. Major disappoint.
dlc comes out tomorrow i think.
