You get attached to them too.. well I did. Named them and everything. :oops:

All I can say is save and save and save again. It's like freestyle Battle Chess on roids.

Just got this recently and started playing a few minutes ago. Something I had forgotten, but is now remember all too well.

4 rookies, early mission. Wipe out 5 (of 6?) aliens early on, have the last guy completely surrounded, but from distance. Alien has plenty of cover, but I have none close, so taking pot shots from long range (45% accuracy). No bonuses, so one shot per unit per turn. 4 misses.

Alien doesn't move on their turn.
X-Com: 4 shots, 4 misses.

A: doesn't move.
X: 2 units in flank come closer (no cover) still only 45% accuracy. Both miss. As do the rest.

A: doesn't move.
X: 1 unit (which I thought was out of sight) moves, drawing reaction fire. Hit, doesn't die. 4 shots, 4 misses.

A: Can see my two guys close, kills one.
X: 3 shots, 3 misses. 2nd guy is now almost within touching distance.

A: Kills the other.
X: Get close enough to touch (2 squares), but not enough ammo to shoot. (oops!) 2 misses, then Reload = end of turn.

A: Alien kills the 3rd.
X: My person has to reload (still under cover).

A: Apparently out of sight.
X: Panics, runs straight out in front of the alien, who shoots point blank.

Mission Failed. 21 shots fired, 0 hit.

Same game, now have an upgrade sniper, first mission with him has a ladder to climb in the middle of the map. :D
 
How quickly should you pursue the main objectives? I can't help but get the feeling I've rushed it a bit and potentially jacked up the lethality of the enemy prematurely. It's like as soon as I get the 'priority' instructions I feel the need to drop everything and research/build/whatever that thing.

Last night I got the hyperwave relay up and running and uncovered the overseer ship, which delivered some nasty new alien types, killed off a veteran Support unit and left only one of six units not wounded or worse. And now there's something VERY VERY LARGE and earthquakey floating off the coast of South America! I don't want to deal with that yet!

I always took my time with the missions. The base is brutal if you don't have at least laser weapons.





Welcome to endgame my man. The final room in that ship has four etherals and three or four Muton elites. It's not super difficult but the final mission is essentially an escort mission with your most powerful unit as the escortee.

Yeah take your time. As long as you've got/can keep the threat board in a relatively "happy place" I'm pretty sure you can take as long as you want.
 
I had one of the most useless snipers ever. Colonel Nobby "Fantapants" McNulty. He just always seemed to miss. :mad:

I have now returned to the game after finishing ACIII. I have got to say I am disappointed. I still prefer the original XCOM by a mile. I do like the updated graphics and the alien AI. I don't like the mission scripting (aliens literally dropping out of the sky mid-mission). I want more than 1 base, stick your satelite system. I want more control over my Rookies.
 
Gee I hope so. Was over all too quickly.

Looks very very good...Only down point was there only being 2 new aliens, but at least you get to fight rebel humans which will be fun. Oh, the the new tech looks crazy!!

Time for another game pre-order for me!!!
 
If only the expansion wasn't 45 ****ing dollars for us. Ah well, I'll just buy it through an American person.

47 new maps is nice. Got sick of fighting in the same car park/bit of forest/industrial complex all the time. Only two new aliens is a bit of a bummer though. Will make a nice break from GTA5 nevertheless. Shut up and take my 45 bucks.

I wonder if you get to keep your same crew.
