The two competitors who assembled the below sides drafted current day players to form their strongest possible team of 22 players. The draft was evenly weighted so that the competitor with pick one had pick number four, and the opposing competitor had picks two and three.

Here are the two competiting sides. Simply vote on the team of 22 that you believe is the more superior.

Assume the game is being played in the middle of the 2006 season.

Xie's Horny Buggers
BA: Chris Johnson – Matthew Scarlett – James Clement
HB: Luke Hodge – Leo Barry – Nigel Lappin
CE: Jason Akermanis – Lenny Hayes – Cameron Bruce
HF: James Hird – Warren Tredrea – Ben Cousins
FD: Nathan G Brown – Barry Hall – Brad Johnson
RU: Dean Cox – Mark Ricciuto – Chris Judd
INT: Jeff White, Fraser Gehrig, Daniel Kerr, Ben Rutten

MC's Hammers
B: Milburn, Maguire, Newman
HB: Gilbee, C.Cornes, K.Cornes
C: Dal Santo, Coughlan, Kirk
HF: L.Power, Riewoldt, J.Brown
F: S.Grant, Lloyd, Richardson
R: Everitt, L.Ball, S.Black
Inter: Fraser, West, Bartel, Pavlich

The much anticipated first player selected was Matthew Scarlett. The logic there is I feel the gap between the best and second best full back is large than the gaps between the best and second best CHBs, CHFs, FFs, Rucks, etc.

I have gone for risks with Brown, Lappin and White, but I am confident they will recover from their injuries and battle on well in season 2006.

Who are these teams. Its like i'm living in another country. It certainly aint AFL i can tell you that!!

ook now i get it. Never mind everybody:o

I'm interested to know why people are voting the way they are...

feel free to comment.
I am actually surprised you are even polling. You have far too many tall forwards and my back line will key you for pace. For starters, Scarlett, Barry, Clement and Rutten are the best four defenders (IMO) going around, so I frankly do not give a damn that you have so many key forwards. On top of that, a back half with rebounding and running ability as well as Barry, Johnson, Hodge, Lappin, Scarlett and Clement will burn the likes of Richardson, Riewoldt and Lloyd for pace.

You also have the likes of Newman and Fraser is your side and that hugely disadvantages you. They are good players, but not in the field of the other 42 players listed.

All in all, I feel my side is far better balanced with a good blend of running and key position players.

FWIW, I have twenty All Australian players to your thirteen (this is only working off the top of my head, so may not be entirely accurate).
