true... but question is do we correct this in the seniors or in the twos?

Good point. Just thought he was trying to apply defensive pressure out there today, but didn't do it as effectively as he could e.g. let his opponents arm free in a tackle, and not positioning himself correctly on a few occasions. He knows how to play the attacking role instinctively. Reckon they'll go over these defensive flaws with him this week. The thing is, you'll only be able to put these skills to a real test at AFL level. I reckon we should at least invest another week into him, and if he struggles, give him a rest in the VFL and allow him to regroup. Who knows, he might slot 3 or 4 next week in 10-15 minutes. He's that sort of player. :)

i think what has irked people the most is he just looked plain lazy out there... when he got burnt off by heath shaw he appeared to be coasting and not interested in running him down.

Even his missed set shot looked lazy... leaned back and stabbed at it...

while guys like rich and ziebel continue to perform and perform in the way they have been performing questions will always be asked of him but to date he has showed glimpses of what to expect... hopefully he just does it more regularly.

a) he wasn't "burnt off" by Shaw, he started 10 yards adrift and ended up 5 yards adrift

b) guys like Rich and Ziebell are big bodied boys who were always going to make a more immediate impact. Could have told you tht 12 months ago.

the crows will struggle to match him up i think... especially if we run with a smallish forward line... betts, yarran, robbo etc... so your right he could quite possible jagg that 3 or 4 quickly... as for the defensive teaching... unless our twos are playing a topish side there would be no point in sending him down to gain that learning... especially if they are playing the bottom side!

were you watching the same chase gilly? he never got any closer than when he started... assume he started 10m behind he got out to 15m a drift before getting back to within 10m...

agree with the underdone claims... maybe that speed that has been documented will come with some fine tuning training in both pre season running and gym...

You know perfectly well I was. Shaw was up and going, so it would take a jet like Davey to chase him down. He kept at it and who knows if shaw just shanked it or there was some perceived pressure. Do you reckon Yazza's at 100% fitness? 100% game pace? I saw WAFL games last year where he looked quicker than that. He would be a sub 3-20. And he is decision making quick to boot.

I just get frustrated with people taking a couple of tubes of paint then trying to paint a full picture.

Over 20m? IIRC, i read somewhere Yarran ran a 2.96 a year or two ago, don't quote me on it though. Didn't run it at the Draft Camp so not sure if he has got quicker or not. Definitely not Davey or Garlett quick but definitely has pace.

i dont know... i can only compare reports of speed to what I saw...

I hope he isn't and there is more good to come...

Who knows, he may have been spent from another run earlier.

But is Heath Shaw really that fast?

Too early to put him on the chopping block but agree with what some posters have said in this thread.

He doesn't look fit to me and can be perceived as a little lazy as a result of that but it's his second game....

WTF Sherrif 5 locked this thread 4 pages ago.

Are you guys crazy - we beat the enemy by 51pt and you are sucked into a negative thread about a kid whom none of us should be judging for at least 12 months

Maybe Pigman barracks for collingwood for they would surely be laughing to see us discussing this now

Hmm ... The OP was far too harsh and negative IMHO, however I think he should be dropped, just to build his confidence up ..
Reactive threads like this don't help, I see a big upside to Yazzle Dazzle, but for pete's sake, one swallow doesn't make a summer ..
We won today by a decent margain, no need to be so negative IMHO.

Does anyone remember what neon leon was like in his first couple of seasons?

Yarran has the natural talent and as long as he is developed appropriately by the club, his talent will eventually prevail.

Just remember, he is not the sort of player who will rack up 40 possessions and win you the game. But rather a player who will kick 5 goals with 5 kicks and win you a grand final ;)

Some posters - sheesh - just burnt this baby so I can listen to it at the game next week - Yarren is goooood, but that was a great tune - loved it- what was his name?

Sorry - his name appears to be Yazz - is that like JIZZ bit spilt all over wrong like a Kewi.

He actually plays a lot like Leon Davis. The way he moves, his kicking action etc. Very laconic and kind of effortless in their stride. Almost a dead ringer.

He needs to work on getting into the contest however, not moping around packs for cheap goals. I'd love to see him leading, taking a grab, and popping it from 40m.

Pretty simple way for that to happen, pop into the middle for a run. He's got the body and has played there in patches to good effect last year for the Swannies.

Look I am probably the fiercest critic of Wayne Hughes there is, but the Yarran pick needs 3-4 years before we can judge it. Yarran could be a star for all we know. Give him time.
In saying that, I'm still majorly pissed at Hughes that he has failed in 5 years to draft one promising replacement for Fev. Negligent recruiting IMO.

I like these threads - it brings all the negative, small-minded player haters together in one small group so they can be easily identified in future. This makes it much easier to work out the credible from the incredible.

Yeah thats a good point, you would think we need to start addressing that. The way Fev parties I can't see him still dominating into his 30s ala Richo.

We traded away our "promising replacement" for Fev in Kennedy to help get Judd. Can't have it all.

What a dud thread.

Not everybody can come straight in and look right at home instantly.

We're still in the "invest for the future" stage to a large extent. Yarran will improve, and as soon as he starts to feel comfortable out there all hell's gonna break loose.

I, for one, will be much happier to see games put into him rather than someone like Wiggins who's shown that he's unlikely to ever be a premiership player.
