Roast Yarran

Id like to see our senior players sit him down during the week and give him a dresing down and some honest feedback. His body language gives the impression that he doesnt want to be out on the field. His work ethic is poor, he doesnt ever get above a slow jog and doesnt offer anything in the way of defensive pressure. There were a few times during the game where he had a chance to lay a big tackle or put his body on the line but he squibbed the contest. He was our biggest passenger today and I would be surprised to see him get another game next week. I think he could be a good player for us but in the future but I certainly dont see him making any impact in 2009.

Looks like the entire peanut gallery is out tonight.

+1 who has been disappointed with Yarran's contribution since he joined us.

Very poor preseason, bad reports about his training, nothing special in the Bullants and kicked two gimme goals in the seniors.

Overall, havent seen anything to support why Recruiting department had him ranked #2 in the last draft.

Lets hope there is a massive upside around the corner.

Lets see... didnt he have a broken forearm which kind of hindered his preseason which would make it poor.

Mate... he is a shy 18 year old who has come from WA to Melbourne and in his second game played in front of 80,000+ people.

The last thing the kid needs is a bunch of tossers who are sitting around tossing themselves off and slating him because he hasnt come into the game and outperformed Eddie.

As someone else said, Eddie has been in the system for 5 years now... he has developed and has started coming good this season...

i gotta be honest, i know the guy is young and could be a good player, but he really has to pick up his work rate, hopefully he will improve game by game but at times when he could have tackled and put pressure on he was loping around, i really am a bit worried we have stuffed up in picking him at 6

Remember our supporter who was chatting to JR a couple of weeks back and JR told him he knew of the shit stacked on him on BF - well let's not do it to another kid

Players in the NFL ( northern football league ) who do not post here or have internet access know people are talking about them on bigfooty. What I'm trying to say is i think most A.F.L players would know about these forum sites too. Its just poor form to come on here and bag out players of the club , but hey we all cant have the cake.

I'm just really pissed off at the w***ers who think that because some kid isnt performing the way that they want him to, he has to be crap and we wasted a pick on him.

He will come good and he will do the job for the club.

It's just a pity that there are people out there who, after 2 games into Yarren's career, think that it should be over already...

i think what has irked people the most is he just looked plain lazy out there... when he got burnt off by heath shaw he appeared to be coasting and not interested in running him down.

Even his missed set shot looked lazy... leaned back and stabbed at it...

while guys like rich and ziebel continue to perform and perform in the way they have been performing questions will always be asked of him but to date he has showed glimpses of what to expect... hopefully he just does it more regularly.

errr were you at the game? He was running at 100% not all aboriginal players are speedsters

Anyone fustrated with Ziebell and Rich playing better than Yarran atm should aim that fustration at the MC not the shy 18 year old from the other side of the country. Pretty sure Yarran Didn't select himself at pick 6 in a strong draft. I don't want to see him dropped this week, but I would like to see more commitment to defensive pressure next week.

center wing southern stand had a perfect view...

were you?

he just looked to be coasting... he didnt look to be trying 100%... again that worries me if that his top speed... i thought we were aiming for a quick mercurial forward...

knew I wasnt wrong... http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/sport/afl/story/0,26576,24747856-19742,00.html

His speed and uncanny goal sense have many experts labelling him the 2009 Rioli.

Disagree 110%. Yarran kicked a brilliant roving goal, and was involved in 2 goal assists. Clearly lacking match fitness, but showed plenty of talent and class. He'll be a star. :)

True Parrot he showed plenty of talent and class but showed virtually NO desire, desperation or interest in being out there. I think there's deeper problems here but, yes, there's no doubting his "potential".

I hope we made the right choice with him.

Yeah similar seats, he was spent by the end of that run mate.

I don't know what Yarran's draft times were like but I'd say his speed wouldn't be leg speed but decision eg Eddie Betts.

Although i agree with observations of his game today, he does lack intensity at times and seems to not totally adjusted to the pace of the game yet. We should stick with him for another 2-3 weeks as he does make our forward line more dangerous and unpredictable. If he gets some more confidence he will no doubt become a very important player for us. I do remember similar comments being made about Eddie early on. Indigenous players can take a little longer to develop. If we had others pushing for selection you could rest him but I think he'll prosper having better players around him. He does have decent size so can play both short and tall, have confidence...:thumbsu:

agree he showed promise but it is just the lack of intensity and perceived interest.

As I said in another thread I think if he is dropped it will be merely a match up issue... either him or browne might be dropped for someone like fisher just to match up against the crows back line a bit better... (johncock, rutten, bock etc)

alright..I may be a so called newbie but Ive been a member for 25 yrs and some of you posters r startin too piss me off..ffs hes played 2 games..where are watts stats?? nats stats??High draft picks..forget rich or whatever..the proof is in the pud 3 yrs later. How long did it take fev, hird,or a much bigger list than a couple of guys from last years draft to come on.Give the kid a break..You cant get into AFL if you are lazy ,these kids are watched for years..If they were lazy they would probably just sit on the pc ,log on here ,and couch potato (bag) every new player that has the potential to be great but needs good coaching

He is underdone; Probably should spend a few more games in the twos, but for a second gamer you blokes ask a lot.
the beat up the kid got in the media at the time of the draft increases the expectation... 35 odd goals in 13 matches in the seniors of the WAFL including 7 in his debut...

No desire? That's not what i saw at least. He was chasing and doing the one percenters out there today. He lacks match fitness clearly, but that'll get better each game. His goal before half time was skillful, and his left-handed handball to Stevens who kicked the goal in the 3rd showed plenty of desire as well as skill. Not bad for an 18 year old 2nd gamer. I'm delighted we chose Yarran over Rich and Ziebell. Both of those 2 will be better earlier on, but Yarran is a lot more talented, and has the potential to be something much better. We're encouraging Yarran to use his talents, but at the same time getting him to develop the defensive side of his game, and the importance of putting in effort when he hasn't got the ball. His offensive skills are way more advanced than his defensive game, but that imbalance will sort itself out over time. He should play next week. :)

true... but question is do we correct this in the seniors or in the twos?
