Roast Yarran

Good call.

I can't think of to many others. It the type of position where you really need to know your team strucutres and where your other forwards move, hence the great understanding Betts and Fev now have.

Wonameri was different in the I think he played more midfield but push hard forward, but yes, I'll pay that.

Has he been injured? Seems to have fallen off a cliff?
yeah think he has had hamstring problems... seems to be a aboriginal "defect" as quite a few have suffered with them... dempsey, rioli (dean), davey (melb) for a while, wonameri even ronnie burns and the like had some issues with them

Garlett had great inferred pressure by closing guys down and getting near them.

They figured out after round 2 that he didn't actually lay that many tackles and was fairly easy to break so the inferred pressure diappeared.

That, and his skills/decision making needs work.

Maybe a player for the future, but not up to senior level ATM.

Most sensible thing said in this thread. What is so hard for people to understand?

Can anyone name me a small forward that came in and dominated from game 1? Betts didn't. Davis didn't......Davey........the list goes on.

It's a hard position to play. He's kicking a goal a (half) game? Yeah.....dud.

Rioli was another BB.

But on the topic I get the feeling with Yazza, were going to love him most of the time, but he is going to cop a fair few wacks along the way but some supporters out there. He does look lazy at times, especially when he had that shot at goal in the last, but that what were going to love about him, the fact that he can make things look really east at times...

Give the bloke some time FFS, He is 19, played 2 games of AFL footy, moved over from the other side of the country and is a high draft pick. I couldn't imagine the pressure he puts on himself, let alone how he would be feeling if he was to read that people were knocking him already .

The kid will be a gem.... GO YAZZA :thumbsu:

Unlike Rioli and Woneamirri, Yarran turns 19 in December and was a bottom age pick.

The expectation we place on the players to be readymade and play like Murphy, Judd and J.Selwood in their first year is ridiculous.

Pendlebury didn't even play a game until late in his first year...

Ellis and Ball didn't play a single game in their first year.

Yarran is ahead of schedule in light of the fact he didn't have the pre-season of every other first year player.

Which is still reduced due to their age and less than the second year players do.

We've been spoilt with Gibbs, Murphy, Walker and Kreuzer, so we expect the same of Yarran from day one.

Simpson didn't get a touch in his first three games and Waite didn't debut until his second year.

Can you imagine the reaction of the chicken littles and Bay 13 if that was Yarran? ;)

Yarran will be a star, cant wait till he gets a little more fitness for some more chases, but more importantly can not wait till he gets the confidence to know he belongs out there. He will be a star!

he may look lazy but i think that is just the way he is, he chased a guy from the forward line all the way up the wing, never gave up but didnt really catch up ground, i just dont think he has super speed.

WILL be a star, and will be 15 times better than J. Gartlett.

He had 55% game time.....kicked 1, gave two away and really should have nabbed another he would normally kick in his sleep.

tough crowd you lot.

What is so difficult to comprehend about Yarran being effective and performing his role without needing to accumulate 25 possessions across HF. He's not going to be a walk-up Steve Johnson. It is about hitting the scoreboard with his opportunities.

Fully agree.

He was recruited as an attacking forward to create shots on goal. In what was a relatively quiet game he had a hand in 3 or so, and missed a gimme all from limited opportunity. Not a stellar game, but more established players are frequently guilty of this.

'Roasting' a second game player is incredibly poor form. If I could be bothered maintaining a list, baconb would be on it.

Match Committee will be looking to develop his confidence.

DO you honestly think that they will drop Yaz for the indigenous round!!!!?:eek::eek::eek::eek:

He will play 99.95% (if fit)

Very though provoking point. You would have to think that racism is dead and buried at AFL clubs and that cuts both ways, so regardless of it being Dreamtime round, if Yarren was going to be cut on form, fitness management or whatever reason you would think that would happen regardless.

I think he will retain his spot, he did not do anything to suggest he is not up to this level, and played his part. Has so much improvement to come and I am sure the club will give him a good go at it.

Yes he didn't play well against the Pies, but come on, Fev put in a stinker against Freo (where Yarran played well I thought) and was held goalless against the Pies, but there is no one seriously suggesting to drop him.

I think there is quite an beautiful 'brotherhood' amongst the aboriginal players around the league, and I think Yarran would dearly cherish and love to play against the Crows and one of the games all time great indigienous players in Andrew Mcleod in this round.

Let him run onto the ground, alongside Eddie Betts (whom has shown so much class and leadership to the younger aboriginal boys in our list this year) and let him enjoy the spotlight in indigenous round, as someone posted in another thread, this could be the spur on to build his confidence and let him shine to become eventually the star we all know he'll become.

Sure, he will make us pull our hair out at times, but to play with a shotgun to your head doesn't really work either.

He has been recruited for a sound reason and I just hope we back ourselves now and watch him flower. I think he'll get a good go from the club and will reward us in kind.

Yup :thumbsu:

i don't know about anyone esle but i get excited whenever Yarran gets the ball. When he got his first touch on the gold Coast the crowd went nuts.

I reckon giving him a taste of football will give him the world of good. He may learn this is the REAL DEAL and I won't be supires if he makes a impression in the pre-season.

I know people say we should have gotten Rich or Ziebell. I wanted Hurley but i back that we got Yarran.

just wait in the 2012 grand final he will win norm smith;)

After watching Yazz play in the WAFL last year he is not the sort of bloke that will get 15 touches a game. He will only get it 7-8 times and he would have kicked 4-5 goals.

Some times when you are playing in a game when the team is dominating like we did on the weekend, it can be very hard to get involved especially if you are on the bench for 50% of the time.

With Fev playing a different role on the weekend would not have helped either as he would usually been trying to get to fevs feet to pick up the scraps.

I say give him a few more weeks and let him show us what he can really do, especially as teams will be paying a lot more attention to eddie b with the form he is in.

Agreed blueboy25, i think he should be given one more week at least, and a bit more TOG. he shows a lot of promise and if he can work on his defensive pressure more it will be fantastic.
Don't go too hard on him... difficult upbringing, move across australia, and afterall he is very young. the AFL community expects too much of young talent these days.

The Yazz should be given another chance this week - let's face it, he hasn't had that much of the ball but has kicked 3 goals in his first 2 games as an 18 year old, and should've kicked 4, that's more than Fev.

Yep, there's questions on his fitness, which will only get better, but he has an uncanny knack of knowing where to move and always looks dangerous.

The reason Rich wasn't picked was because the Blues thought best go for a forward - Rich is a pure midfielder which the Blues have enough of.

I think Yazz only got 1 goal in each game.

what about the confidence of other players doing well in the 2s and not getting picked!

Will be a consideration when necessary, no doubt :thumbsu:

Top post :thumbsu: and I like many may not have had him for my selection but that does not mean we turn to the nurse and say "Sorry, I wanted a girl"

I can only add that not only is Yarran not even 18.5, Robbo will be 20 in a couple of weeks so I think we can give Chris (and Mitch) a couple of years

^ Yep, +2.

Still can't believe a Roast thread was made on the guy TBH.

Sherrif 5 tried to stop it and still cant believe a thread about Ratt's was renamed but a roast of an 18yo 2nd gamer was not

Some interesting analysis there blueboy25 :thumbsu:

Enough of this crap! Enough sugar coating our clubs decision to use Pick 6 in the last uncompromised draft for 5 years on an unhappy, troubled goalsneak. I don't blame Yarran. I blame Hughes and his imaginary experts.

Pick 6 people!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rich, Zeibell or the next best KPP is what we needed. Not a chance bet.

If anyone can tell me that on draft day when the bombers called out Hurley you weren't hoping like hell we called out Rich, then you are full of shite.

I love the club and thats why it hurts me so much our club got it so wrong.

There aint no Fab 4. Just a Fab 1. in Juddy. Our midfield did need another star. Rich was the one.

You're a shitfish.

Do the new posting guidelines apply to this clown who does nothing but bag Carlton players?

Look I am probably the fiercest critic of Wayne Hughes there is, but the Yarran pick needs 3-4 years before we can judge it. Yarran could be a star for all we know. Give him time.

carlton_for_life's thread on Steele Sidebottom

fairly good game i thought, has actually been quite impressive in both his games and slotted in well.

do you expect him to play much more throughout the year.
looks like he will be a real player, IMO will be better than yarran
Posted on the same day.

You can get dreamteam info without being a suck.
