Cooney's first season.

who knows how yarran will turn out? he certainly has the potential, but looks like he needs some more confidence. if only we could mix his kicking ability and size with jeff garlett's speed and defensive pressure, we'd have a star.

Think the main thing Gartlett has over Yarran at present is his desire. Gartlett seems really switched on and aware where Yarran seems to be only partially so. Hopefully both will end up being great players. At this point in time I would rather Gartlett be playing though.

I love the way we are all jumping to the assumption that Yarran doesn't have the desire, when all the available evidence is that he lives for footy and it has helped him get through the hurdles life has thrown at him, and he is an introvert that takes time to become comfortable in his surroundings. Listening to people in here, you'd think we'd been hearing the opposite

Posts should be re-worded so you can an attack an 18 year old footballer, but not an anonymous alleged Carlton supporter who doesn't give a shit if you look at his history.

That's a good rule.

Another rule of thumb is you have to defend your argument if you're supporting a Carlton player and provide three character references to back up you're opinion against the ranting and chicken littles.

You're just part of the cheersquad and one eyed if you support a player and the coach.

Yet if you're attacking a player or the coach, your posts are viewed as legitimate until proven false because you just want what's best for Carlton. An emotional rant must be right if you SHOUT LOUD ENOUGH AND KEEP POSTING TO DROWN OUT THE RATIONAL PEOPLE.

I think I found where you are going wrong my friend.

You are assuming that people in here are actually listening and paying any sort of attention, and then forming well balance view of players......rather than just look at 5 mins of footage, couple it with some spuds training report that says he doesn't work hard enough or is "disinterested", then form the view we got it wrong.

You as much as I probably would have heard Hughes on draft day talking about first meeting Yarran, how he would cower away, and even sneak out of the chancge rooms rather than meet the recruiting staff, but over the years got to know him very well, and CY would be the first to come up to WH and greet him in the rooms.

To the others who still question:

Shy. New team. New city. Complex social background = give him some time. Not all kids are the same and he is adjusting.

For those questioning his workrate on the ground, look at the third Q again and watch how many times he was eiher involved in play or at least around it on the HBF, only to be around the play when the ball went inside 50 a few possies later.
Like most "newbies" he won't be first choice to be used as a forward target, or a midfielder for forward entry. But the things he has done have been fine.

Nice Cooney graphic TG.:thumbsu:

As you would have read TG, no one has questioned the existence of this thread more than Sheriff 5 ;)

Nice Cooney graphic TG.:thumbsu:
It's better than Cooney...

It's Aker.

Walker smashing Aker last year and creating the turnover that led to Betts' goal was gold.

Watched a replay of the last game. Yarran's performance was way more encouraging than his stats. 2 passages of play stand out. The first was his goal in the 2nd, where he read Judd's intentions brilliantly and positioned himself for the handball, and gathered skillfully and finished. The other was in the third, when he gathered a Kruezer tap, and flicked out a brilliant left handed handball to Stevens in space who snapped a goal. He is a truly gifted footballer, with advanced forward line skills. His defensive efforts were A for effort, but C for technique. His tackles didn't pin the arms - a technique issue. And when he played as a loose man in defense briefly, he didn't understand where to position himself for maximal effect. He's obviously been working hard on the defensive side of his game though. Will be a brilliant footballer once he gets it all together. Hope he kicks a bag V Crows. :)

How dumb is TheGeneral?

I hope no one bumps this thread.

It wasn't a graphic though, so you might understand my confusion. :p

I think I saw Yarran's first three years in the guise of Akermanis playing as a leading forward and kicking four goals. Yarran would be a dangerous fifth or sixth option rotating through the forwardline with Walker, Fevola, Waite, Garlett, Hampson, Kreuzer, Austin and Robinson.

And hopefully our first pick in this draft...

I can see Yarran playing as a leading forward with his build, pace and skill after watching Aker tear Geelong up tonight. We had a taste of it in the NAB cup and against the Pies with Yarran marking on the lead.

Yarran moves well and knows how to lead.

I'll be happy if Yarran ends up half as good as Akermanis and plays midfield and forward.

Yarran is a better fit for the Blues and classier than any of the KPP in the last draft.

HBF, wing, midfield, HFF, crumbing forward and leading forward...Yarran can fill all those positions with his build, skill, vision and pace.

Yarran nearly takes a ripper mark jumping on the back of the pack in his highlights package from the 2007 champs.

Have a look at it. :thumbsu:

I thought Callan Ward was Hurley or another tall defender after seeing Yarran run him down in that youtube video.

Ward showed no awareness and jogged out of the backline with the ball. :D
