Prince: yeah it was a great feeling, a great effort. Great reward for such a great year. Our intensity around the contest was great.

"Last year Trent cotchin copped criticism after he had a poor game during the elimination final,do you believe he redeemed that performance tonight?"
Prince: yeah, Trent was great tonight, 30 possessions and 12 inside 50s. It helps when you don't have someone on your tail all night."

Coaches Presser:

"Jay, you did really well in the first half and at half time it looked like you had them covered, but then they fought back in the second. After such a promising season, the loss must really sting."
Prince: It really does sting, our first half was really good. The last quarter was disappointing, we seemed to try to over defend without attacking, and they were just too good for us. THey are a very good team Hawthorn, very experienced. However it was disappointing to go down like we did. We had a few players who were down as well.

"Who were you most pleased with tonight?"
Prince: Once again, Cotch and jack were Great, VLastuin, Miles very good. Most of our team put in a pleasing effort, but there were a few who really let us down.

"The late loss of Dustin Martin must have really hurt so close to such an important game"
Prince: Yeah it really did, Dusty is such an amazing young player, he was so gutted that he didn't get to be out there with us, and we were gutted that he wasn't going to be playing. If we had won, he would have missed the grand final as well.

"What was your message to the boys after the game"
Prince: We just went through what went wrong, the boys are really gutted though. ALso reinforced that it isn't the end of the world, hopefully we can come back bigger and stronger next season and not let it destroy our confidence. It was disappointing to lose, but they have a lot to be proud of this year.

"Plans for the off season?"
Prince We will have a break, enjoy ourselves, then come back and train hard in the preseason. HOpefully bring in some more quality players through the trade period.

Tigers coach confident for 2017 season

Richmond coach Jayden Prince is confident Richmond can take the next step in the 2017 season. Richmond finished 2016 as minor premiers and go into the 2017 as favourites a long with the West Coast Eagles.

"I believe we have the list and talent available to take the next stride this year. We had plenty of players show a lot of improvement over the past year."

"We have trained hard over the preseason, added some good young talent to the list, the boys look sharp and ready for whats ahead."

Richmond 8.2 13.5 16.7 21.9 135

Coaches assessment

The first game against Melbourne was a very tight game, a bit disappointing we werent able to win, a few players were down. Excellent performance in the games against Fremantle and the Bulldogs. Very pleased with the four quarter effort, the accurate goal kicking and the overall intensity.

Impressed with

- Corey Ellis was fantastic throughout all three games, will certainly start in best 22
- Our new recruit, James Meanwell got an opportunity against Fremantle. Did very well, 22 possessions, 14 hit outs, 5 inside 50s. A shame he got reported.
- Ben Griffiths has improved again, kicked 7 against the Dockers and 5 against the Bulldogs.

Coaches presser

"You must be happy to begin the season with a 79 point win?"
Prince: Yeah, it was a great performance, also a very even performance. Everyone played their role well. Offensively we were good, defensively we were very good to be able to keep them to one behind in the first quarter, then scoreless in the last.

"Brett Deledio was best on ground for you, 27 posessions, 7 hardball gets, 7 inside 50s and 4 goals."
Prince: Brett started off forward and did really well, we thought our midfield was down just a little bit, so we put him in there and was fantastic.

"What was your take on your two recruits Jack Hombsch and Alec Waterman?"
Prince: We were really glad to get Hombsch, we've been crying out for a second key position defender to support Alex for years,he had a bit of a quiet preseason, but he was good tonight. Alec hasn't played senior football for quite a while due to illness, so we don't expect him to be excellent right away, but I thought he did ok considering.
