Great win by Port today. To beat Hawthorn in melbourne by 7 goals is a great effort. Well done boys...now a gauranteed 2nd spot after this round!!!!!!!!

Port were a very impressive unit at the MCG today, with their midfield completely dominating. Nick Stevens and Josh Francou played great games, while Tredrea presented himself all day at centre-half-forward and his ability to take a pack mark was probably the main difference between the two sides today.

Primus was back to his best after only one week out with a knee injury, while the Hawks were always going to struggle in the followers department after the exclusion of Shaun Rehn, Shane Crawford and Daniel Chick.

Better players for Hawthorn were Hay, Harford, Lekkas, Smith and Rawlings, but they were totally outclassed today by a fitter, faster and seemingly stronger (more POWERful) Port side.

It's certainly more than a sport over there in Adelaide, they showed plenty of aggression to run away easy winners by 43 points in what was a great display of football by a good Port team, who now jump the Hawks and move to second position on the AFL ladder (with a far superior percentage than Hawthown).

Congratulations to Port Adelaide on a fantastic win...

Thanks Stegelator. Lekkas was supposedly on Stevens, so do you put a guy in the best players when his opposite number has dominated?
I don't understand why Hawthorn seemed content to bottle the game up and play defensively when they have the potential to score a lot of goals.
Chad Cornes needs a spell back in the SANFL, and he can take Lyle with him.

well i just thought although he might of had a dominate opponent i think your over-looking the fact that Lekkas had 21 possies 5 marks 4 clearances 7 inside 50's and 2 goals 2

now if you still don't believe he should be one of the bests of hawthorn well then i will pick up one of my crutches and bop you over the head!!! ya dumb moog!!!!

My point is that he did not do his job. He got taken to the ball by Stevens and his posessions rarely hurt Port Adelaide. If he is in the best players it should be low down, because his direct opponent was the main difference between the teams.
Now bring it on with your pussy crutches!! :o

Congrats guys, far to good today. I don't think i have ever seen a team get it out of the centre more from the bounce than Port today. I thought that Hawthorn's backline was pretty good considering the amount of times the ball was in there, and our forward line never really had a chance. We were just totally outclassed by your midfield led by Primus, Stevens and co.

Well played, see you in the finals ;)

Yeah, Chad Cornes vs 5 Hawthorn players is a bit of overkill, especially considering Chad's recent form.

On an unrelated note I think Hay and Rawlings are far superior footballers to Croad, I don't know why Croad seems to get all the plaudits.

Hawthorn also seem to have bad tackling technique, but enough criticism.

I thought the midfield was always going to be the key, Port had all rights to dominate with Chick and Crawford out, but even then probably not to the level that was demonstrated.

I'm still concerned by the lack of goals from key forwards, just 1 again today, but luckily Wanganeen and Burgoyne were able to clean up around goals, and I was delighted to see Dew let go with a 55m goal, maybe that will give him some confidence back as recently he has been more inclined to try and pass off than to just swing onto the left boot.

I'm happy with the win, and I think the scoreboard probably flattered Hawthorn in the end, but that was mainly due to the amount of players they played in the backline. 67 inside 50's to 44 is a better reflection of the midfield dominance.

Yeah, i know what you mean, we do flood back but even more so today because of our sub-standard midfield.

If you ask actual Hawthorn supporters about Jon Hay and Twiggy Rawlings almost all of you would say that they are better than Croady. The media are the one's that talk him up, i think he is an exceptional talent but Jon Hay and Jade Rawlings are both better footballers right now.

I agree, i reckon the scoreboard flattered us BUT not because of the inside 50 dominance. If you are familiar with Hawthorn then you will know that we hardly ever have more inside 50's than the other team. Even after we won the 8 straight we rarely had more inside 50's than the other team. We rely on our defence to be good enough to withstand a bit of extra pressure because of the problems in the midfield, and our backline almost always stands up. Unfortunately the backline had absolutely no help from the midfield today.

Control the ball, control the game. Today Port controlled the ball all day and were far to good for us. No ground support in the midfield and as a consquence we were hammered.

Well played, but Stegelator, if you think Tredrea had an influence (while Tredrea presented himself all day at centre-half-forward and his ability to take a pack mark) im not sure id agree. He is a wonderful mark, but seriously he would be one of the worst kicks in the league. Unfortunatly for the Hawks, Burgoyne,Wanganeen and Cocky were more than capable of actually finishing off the good work provieded by the blokes (to many to mention but you know who they are) further upfield.

Still, one swallow doesnt make a winter (yea i know that is supposed to read summer, but hey, poetic licencse) so im not writing my side of yet! After all we have Geelong next week!! :D

Cheers.

I dont think any hawk fan has any right to say that about him after todays 'performance' by youir key forwards.
How many shots did you miss in front of goal in the third quarter!! not only behinds, you kicked twice on the full as well.

You must be going on last years performance still about Tredrea. He has kicked 18.8 this year, while at the same stage last year he had kicked 17.16.
He worked on his kicking a lot, and anyone that has seen a port game this year can tell he has improved his kicking out of sight.

What has Hawthorn's kicking for goal got to do with Tredrea's kicking for goal? Knowbody is doubting his ability, he's just a little shaky from set shots. He has maybe the worst run up to goal i have seen, well thats a bit harsh, sometimes it's good but it's like he forgets or something. In the 3rd qtr he had a shot from about 30 metres out on a slight angle, his run up consisted of 3 tiny steps......he just looks nervous sometimes.

Just because im a Hawk fan means i cant comment on flaws i saw in Tredrea's game? Sorry Macca that doesnt wash.

Your first post said he was probably the difference with his ability to take the pack mark. My view is you would have won regardless of him being there at all.

My view of it is, in the context of the game on Saturday for all the possessions he had, his influence was minimal. He should have had an influence but kicking 1 goal 2 behinds plus how many shots (at least three) didnt even make the distance from 30-40m out? And you tell me his kicking has improved???

My view of it is that it was that it was your midfield/small forwards that really did the damage Saturday. Tredrea, found quite a bit of the ball, wasted half his possies with shoddy disposal. Was not a bad player by any means, but the difference between the two sides? No, not by a long shot.

Port01 summed it up perfectly
He has improved, but he still looks far more comfortable on his left foot on the run from 50 than with a set shot 20m out.
Saturday he to many of those set shots, and not enough of the on the run type.
