ususally i respect Sam Newman as i find his football opinions to be very accurate and i like the way he says it how it should be but tonights show was an embarrassment to the panel to the viewers and poor Chris Tarrant stuck in the middle of it. It's quite obvious the two had a personality clash but I don't think Schwarta deserved that.

It looked like Tarrant wanted to get the **** out of there.

Anyway was that thing for real or set up?

A set up? Did you even watch the bloody thing you dumb w***er. Yeah, it was a set-up. Sam meant to fall down like that. It was all an act!!

Wh am I not suprised this post comes from an Essenscum supporter - THE KINGS OF ACTING

what did he (Sam or whoever) do/say????????

I caught the end of the show but missed the start.

Anybody...? :)

.

A very ordinary effort by Sam Newman and indeed the whole Footy Show. They've sunk to a new low. Going by Brendan's Gale's reaction my guess is that the AFLPA will be asking for a 'please explain', as well as possibly the AFL who could forbid players to appear on The Footy Show in future. Newman has also done Eddie McGuire no favors as the whole conflict of interest issue is likely to be raised again. After all how can a club president condone that sort of action, against any player whether it be from his own club or not? I'm sure Eddie would be the first to complain if the same incident happened on Channel 7 to a Collingwood player, or if Collingwood were continually ridiculed like the Melbourne FC was tonight.

YOU MORONS ABSOLUTE MORONS

IT'S ALL STAGED YOU IDIOTS.

VERY GOOD TELEVISION AND EVERY THING WOULD OF BEEN REHEARSED.

That's what I queried. But Tarrant's da man, a Collingwood supporter I would think, thought that could not have happened.

Joffa,

There is no way that was staged. Sometimes you just get that feeling that something on TV is real. Especially the way Schwarz shoved Sam. I think he thought the Schwarz would think it was funny, but obviously it wasn't.

Substitute Buckley for Schwartz. Firstly, staged or not, Eddie wouldn't just let it go with a few softly spoken words, and our Woods fans like Joff would be screaming.

I know Sam gets paid to be controversial but I'm not sure why he was critical of Melbourne and Schwarz in particular all night.

They did have a shocker. I'm sure they are probably embarrassed by how they performed.

But for him to publicly humiliate a guy who was already seemingly disappoinated over the injury in his 150th game and the performance of the team was over the top.

I agree that is was probably meant as a joke but I'm not really surprised that Schwarz reacted in the way that he did. If anything, I think David kept his composure remarkably well. He could easily have done more than simply push Sam, ie punching his lights out or given him a mouthful.

The way Benny Gale and Spider reacted, the players were far from impressed and it will be interesting to see what happens in the next few days.

And what a night for controversial TV!

There's a rain delay at the cricket on Channel 7 and when thinking they were in a ad break, Thommo said he was getting "****en drowned"

:D

Does anyone remember about 10 years ago in the cricket, when Ian Chappel - who thought the cameras were off - said : "I can't hear a f*cking thng with that noise."

Dan,

I don't remember the particular incident with Ian Chappell but I do remember him getting in a bit of trouble.

Who can forget the comment made by Tony Greig during a domestic one-dayer last year in reference to a bride?

Even the other day, apparently the panel operator at the ABC radio station was involved in an animated discussion that included quite a few expletives. Definitely not the kind of thing you expect to hear from the ABC. :D

You would think people would be more careful around microphones wouldn't you?

.

Sam having the pie merely indicates premeditation, not staging. No way in hell was that staged, the look on David's face was too angry by far.

I reckon he should have smashed Sam's face frankly, make the d@#khead pay for more surgery on his face.

I know I said I wasn't going to post anything here for a while, but I really feel I have to enter this particular debate ... so forgive me for going back on my word.

That incident was real.
There is no doubt about it.

Newman is a showbiz professional, but not really an actor. Schwartz is definitely not an actor. He is a footballer with limited media experience. That incident was much too realistic to have been an act.

The reason Newman had the pie was because he planned to put it in Schwartz's face. But Schwartz's didn't know about it in advance. His reaction was totally spontaneous. If he'd been acting it would have looked a lot more awkward. Because Schwartz is NOT an actor. And Newman certainly didn't expect Schwartz to react the way he did.

BELIEVE ME ... I KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT ... I AM AN ACTOR.
That was much too good a "performance" to have been done by people with no acting experience or training.
Not a hope in hell.
THAT WAS REAL!!!

As for Eddie McGuire's part in all this ... It was obvious that he had no prior knowlege of what Newman was going to do. He was obviously surprised and embarrassed by what happened, but he is a true showman and he knew that the "show must go on". There was nothing in his attitude to suggest that he condoned what Newman had done. He was simply trying to make sure that his TV show did not degenerate into total chaos. There was a very real risk of serious violence there and Eddie kept a level head.

The "conflict of interest" thing is complete nonsense. Forget that. Anyone trying to bring that up is just trying to milk this situation to push their particular barrow.

Sam Newman appears to have committed assault. And it's interesting to note that a man was recently JAILED for pushing a pie into Steve Bracks's face. Now, if the courts are at all consistent ... well, I'll leave the reader to fill in the rest. I doubt if it will get to court, because then Schwatz would be in trouble for retaliating.

Sam Newman should consider himself very lucky not to go to gaol.

DEFINATELY NOT STAGED...

I was so embarrassed for David.......and for the club.

I just hope that bloody club of mine does something about it...if Joe was there, he would have......but seeing he's not, I won;t be surprised what those gutless people on that board do!! (sorry for being political!!)

Alf you said it all in a nutshell.

Sam Newman lost the plot years ago!!

I don't think it was staged. What if Sam had of fallen back on Tarrant & injured Tarrant ?
Eddie would of gone off his nut.
