I didn't see anything bad myself on Saturday. I did see and hear some awsome cheering and that slow Collingwood chant was something to behold. It too me bakck to amtch at princess Park when I was a kid and we beat Carlton by 10 goals. David Twomey dived on a Carlton boot to smother a ball when we were 10 goals up. that typified how were played then and how we play now. The crowd let out that long slow Collllinnnggwwoooooood chant and it was just awsome. I never heard it like that again until Saturday. Eddie singled it out on MMM in an interview after the game as the best part of the day. I must say I was amazed at the amount of black and white all the way down Swan Street (where I park) down Punt Rd. and all the way up to and inside the G. It was a sight to behold. I swear there were 76,000 Collingwood supporters and a few Port and neutrals. that's what it seemed like anyway.
So some Port people were a little intimidated hey? I guess they were promised the most hostile reception imaginable and they said bring it on so on it was brought. This is big stuff we are playing here. We are a proud club, we've been riddiculed and our former captain has shown a disregard for our heratige and our club over a period and we don't like it. heck we we hate it. Did I say we are a proud club???
Violence is another thing altogether. Anyone who gets violent at the footy ought to be locked up for the night and banned from returning. But intimidation in the circumstances where we'd been given a fair bit and then told by our former captain that we were the team they most wanted to play, well bring it on boys. You asked for an expieriance and you got it.
