What struck me most was just how casual he was in the interviews afterwards. Here is a lifelong Port supporter, debuting on his birthday and playing in an epic win where the crowd worshipped him... and he was cool as a cucumber.

What a boss.

Imagine if he had been the medical sub and didn't get on, or only got 10 minutes like Mayes got?

It is a whole different story about what happened in your debut game, and your memory for the next 60 or 70 years is so much smaller and nowhere as joyous.

The AFL loves making up rules on the run. They should make up one banning a debutant being the medical sub. I *in' hope we never do it, unless we have 15 injuries and all that is left are players who haven't debuted.
