the picking of the england youth sides os regarded as pretty odd by a few youth accounts. toshin missed out on u19 selection even though he's regarded as one of the best cb's of his age group

Our academy is really starting to bear fruit. Just won back to back UEFA cups and a FA Cup threepeat. Probably second to none atm in terms of developing kids.

Only thing left though is for us to actually use them in the first team. This season has been a good start with RLC and Traore getting a big taste.

We really do have a whole lot of talent. Abraham, Tomori, Christensen, Clarke-Salter, Da Silva, Aina, Scott, Palmer, Musonda, Colkett, Ake, Chalobah, Solanke etc. If we can't intergrate some of these guys into our firtst team we may as well just shut the academy down.
Ive never put a lot of stock in winning under age stuff. Pretty sure Liverpool have won some Youth FA Cups in the last 10 years and from those winning sides, pretty much nobody came through. It's so hit and miss.

You just gotta throw them into the real stuff and see if they sink or swim.

Ashley Fletcher is having a good season on loan at Barnsley from United. 8 goals in 20 games in his first season of senior football. Scored in the Johnson Paint Trophy Final and last night to lead Barnsley back to Wembley for the playoff final.

He's a late bloomer and has great touch for a player of his size. Barnsley have already said that they want him to lead the line next season for them in the Championship (if they get there). Here's a nice goal from a couple of weeks ago. I don't see him making it at United but he should be able to forge a decent career for himself.

The quality of players we've produced over the years seems to be inversely proportional to the number of trophies we win at youth level.

1990s we won nothing but produced the likes of Carragher, Fowler, Gerrard, Owen, McManaman and Michael Owen.
2000s we won 2 or 3 FA Youth Cups and the old Reserves league, and in 10 years produced Jay Spearing, Dani Pacheco, Stephen Warnock and Martin Kelly.
2010s we've won nothing and produced players like Sterling, Ibe, Suso, Flanagan, and Smith with Ojo and Brannagan also looking promising.

It's hard to judge success at underage level as there is a big variety of opponents you come up against.

Remember watching out kids play West Brom last year. We were miles better technically and tactically but they had older, stronger more physical players and eventually came back to draw 3-3.

Remember that Liverpool era and posted that while they had a strong team,, and very organised. But no-one really stood out to me. We got beat in one of those finals but had Sturridge, Richards, Onuoha and a few others that even at that stage looked good enough to play in the premier league (got a feeling Sturridge didnt play the first leg as he was in the senior team. Richards might not have played at all).

Still think winning is inportant at that level. But only one part of it.

Looks United bound.
Been rumored, he has 2 more years left on his deal I think.

If he wants game time next season, he should stay with us. Tomkins is probably off to Sunderland or Crystal Palace, and he'll get games in Europe next season.

At his age he should stay, he looks to be angling for a move away though.

Our shining light is Marcus Edwards who the big spending Chelsea are reportedly into. Hopefully he follows Onomah's path and turns down the money and stays around. From all reports he is the most talented we've had through ever
Going to be interesting given our rigid stance on youth to see if they lure him away or if he foregoes the immediate $$ increase.

Happy fatherhood JD :)

Onomah won't leave Spurs, well not for Chelsea anyway. 8 EPL subs appearances and 20 overall last season. He's 19 and would have thought Poch would have told him he'll be more involved next season. He could be the cure to your Mason/Carroll hate :p

If he is cracking the sads though, loan him out (which is what West Ham should do with Oxford). Chelsea aren't going to risk their youf getting pissed off by buying a 19 year old midfielder lol.

I was referring to Edwards actually.

Mason I don't hate I just want him out. Carroll I hate because for some stupid reason pups rates him.

Onomah probably will get early games. Dembele banned for a month and Son going to the Olympics (to try and get national service exemption) so he'll play early I'd imagine.

:oops::oops::oops:

Would be surprised if Edwards left... are spurs being tightarses? Youf players usually get poached well before 17. The argument to stay at spurs is pretty easy.

They've got a pretty hard stance on not paying above and beyond for youth prospects. Don't want to give them too much too soon and male them prima donas early on
