To provide the first team with players. Which it is doing.

Completely agree, mate. Results don't matter at that level, it's just about producing footballers that can contribute to the first team. If they did matter I think we would be seeing Onomah, Winks and Carter-Vickers playing at that level.

The only negative is KWP, who is, according to Windy, struggling as part of a seriously awful back 4. He even suggested that perhaps we should buy a few 21-22 year olds just to play at that level so that the promising younger players, such as KWP, Oakley-Booth, Roles, Shashoua, Edwards when he's there etc, aren't on the receiving end of hammerings every week.

A bit of context for our poor results in the PL2 this season:

Ages of Tottenham U23 starters this evening: 18, 19, 18, 19, 18, 17, 18, 16, 18, 16, 18.

I know there are a few teams that would also have young teams, but there are also a lot that have 20-23 year olds in their teams. The problem is worse when it is widely believed that of that group there are only the two 16 year olds and one of the older guys who are expected to make it. With the exception of Walker-Peters the back 4 is especially poor, as are the CM's.

I think we have high hopes for the current group of 16-17 year olds, rather than the year or two above so that's why they're being pushed up to the U/23's to get better experience, even if it is to the detriment of the team. There's also the problem of the best players in our PL2 age - Onomah, Winks, Carter-Vickers - being with the first team and not playing U23s.

Yeah, mate, I said that we're unlikely to be alone in that regard. But most teams, from what I understand, have at least 2 or 3 20-23 year olds, if not more, in their team, whereas we have none. How are United's PL2 team set up in this regard? Do you have many guys aged 16-17 playing at that level or are they all with the U18s?

It's just that our 'senior' group at that level - apart from 1, maybe 2, and a few guys who don't play because they're with the first team - are seriously shit and will be lucky to have a career anywhere in the football league.

We don't loan our good youth players either as Pochettino doesn't want them picking up bad habits. Apparently he thinks they are better suited training permanently with the first team rather than playing PL2 football or going out on loan, even if it means they only make 10-15 appearances in all competitions. It's a policy that seems counter-productive to me, but who am I to argue.

Our U18's are doing way better than I expected. 6 wins from 6 averaging 3 goals a game. Really good signs from a pretty young group. U23's going pretty well too, just two points off the lead atm. But they've had to battle for their points and I can see us dropping off as the season goes on.

We have two 21 year olds in the U23's. A perma crock CM and a bloke who won't make it RB. Everyone else is 16,17,18. We cleared out a lot of dead wood over the summer. Rashford & Fosu-Mensah are with the first team (both 18). Borthwick-Jackson is on loan at Wolves and doing very well. Andreas Pereira is doing very well on loan with Granada. Axel Tuanzebe (18), Roshaun Williams (17), Indy Boonen (16) and Angel Gomes (16) train with the first team.

The U18's are all basically 16 with the occasional 17 year old.

I must argue a point you said earlier how that at this level, results dont matter. I dont really agree with that. You want the kids to be playing well, scoring goals and winning games. Coming out and getting battered every week would destroy any young kids confidence.

Sanches didn't have a great season at Benfica. Was very inconsistent which is to be expected of someone his age.

Had a good euros which might be enough as I doubt many of the voters watch the Portuguese league.

Awards like these for whatever reason always give way more weight to internationals. It's why Ronaldo will probably win the Ballon D'Or this year too.
