Dom Solanke Golden Ball for the u20 World Cup. Caught the semi and the final - Onomah impressive in midfield rather than out wide where he's predominantly played whenever I've seen him, Sheyi Ojo too was excellent with a matchwinning performance in the semi which was great to see after an injury stunted season. Come to think of it, seems like most of England's best players at that level are Nigerian!

Hot tip for next season Onomah will be our Dembele back up over Winks. A lot of ITK youth followers of Spurs think he is the best to come through the ranks. I saw him absolutely boss an U21 game against Everton 2 years ago when he was 17 or 18, very Dembele like when playing in his age group. Once he bulks up a bit he could be that type of CM

Has a bit more going forward than Dembele. Winks isn't v highly rated. Onomah and particularly Edwards are the 2.

Winks was always very small for his age and is a more technical CM who just does his job. Whether he is a Tom Carroll type mid-table CM or very good CM and stays with us remains to be seen.

Yeah Onomah while I was over there was the one. Now it's Edwards who is something completely different again. Shame he picked up an ankle injury when he did and couldn't get more FA Cup game time

I havent caught up with this thread for a while so sorry for quoting old posts.

But not sure I agree with this, at least internally at Spurs. Reportedly Pochettino rates Winks as the highest of the 18-21 batch to come through, whereas the opposite might be true of Edwards. He's regularly been considered one of the best of his age in the country but apparently Pochettino has concerns over his workrate and attitude. It's even been said by youth watchers that he may even rate another young guy who plays in a similar position, Sam Shashoua, who was on our bench in the last couple of games of the season, higher. There's also a possible impasse over his contract situation atm. He's got 1 year left and reportedly he doesn't want to sign without more game time and we won't give him more time until he signs. Similar to the Mios Veljkovic situation. Apparently he also knows that he could earn a lot more money elsewhere, even as a youth player. There's been murmers for about a year now that he's unhappy with the wage cap at Spurs with his mates and international teammates at other clubs earning 20k+ at the same age. Apparently this is the reason he hasn't been included on our pre-season trip to the US as well, so it's not looking good on that front atm.

Agree that it remains to be seen whether Winks can cement himself as a first 11 player for a top 4 side or whether he'll be just a squaddie, but his performances last season are promising in this respect imo. He's got a lot more to him than Mason and Carroll though. Not quality wise, obviously, but stylistically he's the closest thing we'll see to Modric back at Spurs. Whereas Onomah is definitely Dembele like but apparently there are concerns over his tactical and positional discipline in CM and that's why he's mainly been played, without much success tbf, further forward. Interesting to see whether we sign another CM this window or rely on Winks, and perhaps Onomah to be rotational options with Dembele.

In other youth news, apparently Jadon Sancho at City has rejected a new contract and wants to move back to London for personal reasons and because he doesn't believe there is a path to the first team for him at City, with Arsenal and Spurs the main options. Considering our rigid wage cap for youth footballers I think it's most likely he ends up at Arsenal. I've never seen him play but youth watchers on a Spurs forum I'm on are extremly excited by this link and consider him a seriously special talent.

Edwards isn't on the tour because the u19 World Cup finished up a couple of weeks ago. He can't just roll into a full blown pre season after the international tournament. Wouldn't read too much into it yet. But Edwards definitely needs to buckle down and not let the hype get to his head which is always a risk.

On Onomah he has been playing advanced roles because he is still a kid and not physically imposing enough to play the role we want him to. That being said I saw a pre season photo on Facebook and he is definitely looking a lot bigger this year.

Not so sure that it's as simple as that. There are other players from the same team that have linked up with their teams for preseason tours. In any case, he is in the last year of his contract and there are generally orders from Levy not to play players if that's the case, ala Milos Veljkovic.

From other teams or from spurs?

I'd be annoyed if they did take him with the injuries he had at the back end of last season and then had the U19 euros.

The only thing that held him back from being it cup squads and perhaps pushing on was the timing of his injuries. Think he broke his arm and then did his ankle around the time we had fa cup ties

See, I'm the opposite. Considering he barely featured last season if there is no problem with his contract status (although as I said from what I've read I believe this is the main reason he wasnt taken), then I would have preferred him to be taken and give him an opportunity to demand a place in the squad early. Particularly keeping in mind that Son and Lamela will miss the start of the season and Dele is suspended for the first 3 CL games.

I'm afraid of burnout for the kid especially if he did well. Wasn't fully fit for the euros because of the injury at the end of last season. With the way we play he needs an OK break to hit pre season and force his way in that way.

His reason for not playing last season was simple. Got a run against villa then got injured in a u23 game was out for 4-6 weeks. Returned and we were in the title race and latter stages of the FA cup. Not an ideal time but then he got injured again and wasn't fit when guys like Lesniak got a run at the end of the year.

I looked at his profile on transfermarkt and they've got down an interesting management company that he is under. Literally no names on there really.

There's definitely a chance he chases the money but that'll be the worst thing for him. If his advisors are smart they'll tell him to just play good football and he'll get his contract sorted with us
