You'll never guess what the 2021 free kick differential chart looks like

LMAO… who cares what you think more like it Another Melbourne supporter commenting here. Fast becoming the floggiest supporter base in the AFL… kudos!!

How f*n delusional are you Systematically coached… I love it. Are you a Fox News watching, Tin foil hat wearing Trump supporter also, or just a vapid fool?

Given it’s so systematic, how much time do you propose the Dogs spend on this. Given Weightman is so early into his career, do you believe we fast tracked his training? Summer flop camp, online education, after hours flop training? Which specialist coaches do you believe we’ve brought in to train such skills? Max Gawn is a renown flopper, is it possible he’s moonlighting with us? Or Pickett and Spargo, some young blood with new flopping ideas. So many options to help guide the Dogs.
It’s not a conspiracy, it’s obvious. The reason you have that differential is that you aren’t getting frees paid against you. Fine. Is it seriously believable that your players are doing everything by the book when tackling? To give away virtually minimal free kicks compared to the rest of the competition is ridiculous.

I am not saying the online hate to Weightman is warranted, that’s nuffy behaviour, however he is clearly becoming a player that is prepared to put some GST on it when is tackled and clearly shrugs when tackled to bring the tacklers arm up higher. It was stated by the commentary team on the weekend. Is it a legitimate technique? Probably. Does it suck the umpires in? Definitely.

I don’t like it at all. The AFL needs to come down very hard on players shrugging and dropping to cause a legitimate tackle to be be seen as a dangerous one. By the time Weightman got his fourth free kick it was obvious the umpires were looking at him and his behaviour as opposed to the action.

To say he has sucked them in is an understatement. The first one was probably the only legitimate one there. In fact it was the only one. He kicked three goals from nothing illegal. It’s pretty disgusting that Essendon had to deal with the fall out from piss poor umpiring.

So being held and pushed into the back, receiving a free kick was Weightman’s fault? A little soft yes, accentuated by Weightman, no.

So getting hit in the head by Draper and receiving a free kick was Weightman’s fault? Soft yes, accentuated by Weightman, no.

So getting pushed over the boundary line and receiving a free kick was Weightman’s fault? Soft yes, accentuated by Weightman, no.

Getting held onto in a marking contest and receiving a free kick was Weightman’s fault? Soft, not really, accentuated by Weightman, possibly.

By all means, the AFL need to clamp down on obvious abuse of the rules. The AFL have dug their own grave here, allowing the likes of Gray, Shoey, Selwood etc to get away with unsportsmanlike behaviour for years now. But every team has these players, so make sure your own backyard is clean before you start flinging s**t.

Making Weightman, a 17 game player the poster boy of such behaviour is *ing ridiculous. If he only kicked 2 goals out of the 4 opportunities, this conversation doesn’t occur.

Watch the incidents objectively if you can.

So what’s your answer for the Dogs ability to give away such a low level of frees then??

Because there are only two options, I t’s either the Dogs have a better grasp of the rules, or the AFL have sanctioned the entire umpire group to adjudicate the Bulldogs differently?? Are you serious? What’s more believable??

The Draper incident occurs so frequently that it’s not unique and certainly not worthy of a free. It’s beyond soft. Pushed over the boundary line? He put so much emphasis on that it’s ridiculous. There was nothing in that.

The first tackle was in the back if anything. He wriggled and squirmed into getting tackled high. It was so obvious the commentators called it.

The second one was beyond soft. That happens non stop. It wasn’t even deliberate. It wasn’t intentional. He probably didn’t know Weightman was there.

The third one it looks obvious that Gleeson took his arms off him. Having his arms around him didn’t help and he shouldn’t have done it, but it didn’t really impede him.

The fourth was one was a joke. He was hardly touched and if you are going to pay those then you’d be stopping the game every 10 seconds for pushes.

It’s beyond acceptable to continually allow this to happen, and yes you’re right in that the AFL has allowed this to happen. It’s actually ruining the game. The only way you can be sure not to keep the umpires involved is by beating your opponents by a huge margin so they can’t influence proceedings.

The commentators are even biting their tongues when this happens because they can’t openly say the rules are shot and the game is full of divers. Umpires need to start looking at WHERE the player is tackled, NOT what the tackled player does. A good tackle will pin the arms, if the tackled player drops or shrugs then it’s obvious they are attempting to gain a free and it’s a prior opportunity.

It’s both. That was evidenced by the 2016 GF. Can you honestly look at those free kicks in that game and say you didn’t get the rub of the green? If you can’t admit the umpires umpired badly then you’re not fit to contribute due to your bias.

Your players clearly know how to manipulate the rules to suit them. Weightman is a case in point. That first free kick. It shows you that the kid wriggles and squirms around once tackled. The commentators even called it. He raises his arm and the tacklers arm looks higher than it is.

Is it legitimate? Yes. Is it fair? No. Umpires are now looking at the tackled player, not the tackle itself. The whole thing is a mess.

I simply can’t agree with your commentary on the frees, so I’m not going to bother adding anything further. Maybe I’m simply too bias, as the lack of objectiveness is astonishing. I’m not directing this at you DD, but so many vocal oppo supporters, in particular a strange proportion of Dees supporters.

Please see my previous message, what’s more believable. The AFL literally instigating and pushing a pro Bulldogs agenda or the Bulldogs having a better grasp of the rules. It’s one of the other.

Right!! It’s an AFL wide mess, great! And you’re right!! Direct your whinging towards the AFL. It’s idiotic to make this a Bulldogs problem.

3 incidents are deemed soft and 1 accentuated by Weightman. There’s your issue.

Anyway, good luck with your escapade, this thread and the agenda within it is a joke. It’s either full of trolls or fools. Pick the side of the fence you sit on.
Lmao mate youre getting real bent out of shape here, relax. We're all just fans asking why one team is leaps and bounds ahead of the remaining teams when it comes to free kick differential, no need to take it personally. Why do you think it is? The numbers do not lie

A little bent out of shape yep, Weightman has been on the end of social media abuse to a level no player should receive, it *ing bugs me.

In it’s most simplest form, I see only 2 alternatives.

1. The AFL have internally organised and directed the umpires for some unknown reason to give less free kicks against the Dogs.

or

2. The Dogs on average, are a more disciplined team than the rest (one team has to be). And in combination with being top 5ish for frees For, creates a large discrepancy.

On face value what’s the more logical answer??

From watching the Dogs play since 2016 it's clear that number 1 is the most logical answer, considering the then chairman of the AFL stated he wanted to see the Bulldogs win a grand final by the time he ended his tenure, at the end of '16 coincidentally.

Bulldogs throw more than any other side bar Richmond and Geelong. Richmond are on the opposite end of the ledger but they usually play on the edge a lot more.

Considering how much most supporters have been carrying on about how sick to death they are of Bulldogs throwing the ball constantly you can't possibly even suggest that they are, on average, more 'disciplined' than the rest? The sheer amount of bullshit they get away with is phenomenal and I'm a WCE supporter ffs.

Right… so now that the AFL have orchestrated a Premiership for us, which included possibly the most unbelievable month of footy seen for some time… what’s their MO now as clearly their pro Bulldog stance is still on show?? One more premiership? 5 more? 10? I’m hoping they win us another 5, I’d be happy with that.

Well, the grand final had possibly the most ridiculously biased umpiring ever witnessed, so much so they offered an official apology to the Swans, so it's entirely believable that the umpires were instructed to favour one team over the other.

Considering how the AFL constantly changes rules/fixtures to favour, or disadvantage, certain teams you'd be fairly naïve to not consider this to be a possibility at the very least.

So let’s just say you’re correct. In 2015/16, the AFL Commission got together for a pub lunch and started spit balling ideas around over a beer or 3.

“I’ve got a great one” yells Gill spilling his pint glass, “how about we risk everything, manipulate the fixture and systematically manipulate the umpiring to favour a team all the way to winning a grand final?”, “why’s that Gill” queries Mike Fitzpatrick, mouth aghast, “why the * not” slurs Gill, “it’d be ******* hilarious!!”. “It’s agreed” laughs Mike.

Gil gets his secretary to type up his 20 page memorandum, outlining the AFL’s new modus operandi. She has it cross checked by the chairman and executive commissioners and ticked off by the board. It’s then distributed to the head of umpiring who goes about the task of re-wiring every single umpire in the league.

So now we’ve discovered it’s completely possible and actually incredibly likely…

My query, why the Bulldogs?? We’re hardly the darlings of the AFL. We have a low supporter base, marketability isn’t there, what’s the benefit? Why not Carlton, Essendon or Collingwood, clubs which would greatly increase the AFL’s bottom line?

The Bulldogs are more disciplined when it comes to exploiting the rules and interpretations to gain an advantage, instead of getting pinged for holding the ball free kicks they will flop forward to milk a push in the back free kick or drop their knees to milk a head high free kick or drop the ball and hold their arms out appealing for a holding the man free kick.

I guess you could call it smart play since the umpires constantly fall for it and reward them but it annoys opposition supporters and loses them respect.
