There are a number of young brilliant footballers going around Australia right now. However, i want to tell you guys about 1 player who i know a lot about and that is the NSW-ACT u/16 Full Forward Aaron Rogers.
This kid plays in the same competition as my kid and he is a very good footballer. He kicked 7 goals against Qld in the final game of the championships.
He will be under very big demand when it comes for his turn to be nominated in the draft. He can play half-back or full-forward, and was picked in the NSW-ACT u/16 team last year when he was under 15.
Another player in the NSW-ACT team that i know a bit about is Jarred McVeigh. He is still only under 15 and has named as one of the best players for NSW-ACT in 3 of the 4 games i have seen the results for.
I dont know what position he plays although i am pretty sure he is a rover. He is the brother of Mark McVeigh from Essendon.
These 2 players will be in major demand when it comes their turn to be picked in the draft.

well i know of one guy from my skool year 12 and his sister is my year he has one year left before he can play afl level but he is already playin in westar which is pretty good since all the westar guys are about 2 years older than him and afl officials hav looked at him
and on the game i think it was there was this 10 year old kid that is related to michael long i think and this 10 year old can beat people 2 times his age

Too bad, under the rule changes these guys Rogers and McVeigh are zoned to Sydney who can list a players that reside within a 50km radius of central Sydney.

Appalling isn't it

Don, I'm sure you are really disappointed with that too.

Interestingly, the Lions, like every other team, are very keen on Nick Riewoldt from Southport. However Southport is located on the Gold Coast and is further than 50km from Brisbane. Their attempts to have the changed to within 100km was opposed strongly by St Kilda and Port Adelaide.

Let's hope the AFL stand firm.

And who knows, perhaps Malcolm Blight's idea about reintroducing a limited zoning system that compliments the national draft has a bit of merit. I have no problem with Sydney and Brisbane getting access to a local player if all teams could do the same.

I am appalled at this compromising of the draft. Actually I am outraged. Maybe if these guys can play it will soothe my rage.

Zones are a bad idea because they are too open to cheating etc, how do you make them fair.

The logic of these concessions to Sydney and Brisbane is a bit marketing and in some way reflects that those teams put more into local footy development.

We can learn to live with it

WCE thats great that you have spotted some new up-coming talent but i have played with a lot and seen a lot of 15-16 year olds who have had big wraps on them but it has effected their football. eg big head sindrome
hopefully these kids wont have those problems but a lot do

A lot of players that age develop early.

I know a guy that played for my club that was killing everyone in the U14's and U16's because he was a huge kick for his age (60+ metres) and a lot bigger than the rest.

But he never really developed beyond that so he ended up playing U18 footy in a local comp...

(of course different in Victoria - we have a really strong U18 league that all the vic draftees come from - they don't play senior footy like in WA etc.).

Early developers always stand out early then fizzle... even before big head syndrome.

Matt
