Hawthorn aren't in front of us, most of their young draftees haven't played a senior game. Our crop is further developed.

I'd back our 15 man midfield to leave Franklin, Thorp and co fetching their knitting so they have something to do in the second half as the ball never comes near them.

what happened to the bulldogs against the eagles this year, they got smashed

glass, hunter, cox, hansen, lynch etc very good spine to compliment the best midfield of all time

its one thing to have a run and carry style of game and its another to be unaccountable for your opponent and watching the ball move in circles like most of our games were this year

class kpp will always prevail

You need a couple of decent big blokes but premiership teams are littered with C-grade big blokes doing a job.

Not in the year 2000, Wallis was more than handy.In his early days his was a average though.

I see your point, but in that game they just weren't good enough in the midfield. It's West Coast's midfield that makes them great. Of the KPP list you've put up there, only Cox is an A grader. Glass is good, but he's a role player. Hunter is very handy but isn't any better than someone like Joel Bowden.

glass is the AA full back and hunter would be getting massive money if he wanted to come to melbourne, and kpp is the eagles weakest point so thats what im saying

Okay KPP, but not great. Sydney had the better KPP in this year's grand final yet lost in the middle. Football now is ruled by the middle.

i dispute that, none of them have demonstrated that on the field and I mean none...Please list the performance to date of the Roughheads..Dowlers, Kennedys and Ryder.and then compare that against our boys...think you'll find there's precious little to support to make such a ridiculous unqualified remark

Apart from the first quarter, I thought Sydney controlled the midfield, they were alot more effective.

Even if this was the case (which it wasn't); Goodes, Kirk, O'Keefe, Jude Bolton, Kennelly, Buchanan is a pretty handy midfeild group.
 
hansen and lynch won it for the eagles, hall lost it for sydney

nah but kpp dont matter :rolleyes:

Cousins comes 4th then.

When Cousins is your 4th best midfeilder you know you have a decent midfield.

Midfields win games these days. They win grand finals.

LTR is rubbish. Deadset unco. Poor mans Ray Hall.

Lynch is pretty average also, just a big unit.

Hughes will be Hansen-like.

Hall had a rare bad game which helped the defensive KPP's.

Cox is a superstar - again proves midfeilds important.

T Gaspar -> poor
WCE KPP -> middle of the road.

Their outstanding midfield has got them in the GF the last 2 years.

no doubt they have the best midfield in the league but even last year when they needed some grabs from gardiner and gaspar it didnt happen despite all the ball that was coming to them

eagles havent lost a game with hansen in the team all year so it just shows even the best midfield need a lead up target

agree lynch is a dud but id take 3 goals in a gf anyday of the week

look at adelaide and how they choked, you dont win grand finals with ian perrie as your target man

By the same token WCE KPP lost them the GF the year before then? And the stronger Sydney KPP won it for them? :confused: When games, more so GF's are won by under a goal I don't think you can read quite as much into it as you are. Certainly not KPP wins grand finals.

The gardiner and gaspar WCE side the year before only just lost. If Leo Barry didn't take marks of the century then we would be discussing how gardiner @ CHF and gaspar @ CHB wins you grand finals. It's fact it gets you withing a couple points.

Cleave Hughes will turn into our Hansen. A forward flanker type who leads hard into the midfeild instead of taking contested CHF marks.

Hansen and Lynch didn't win them the grand final. It was a combined effort of course from the side; but the major factor was the outstanding midfeild unit which made up for a run of the mill spine.

Modern football. The trend will only continue to grow.
 
both results werent flukes, the best team won on both occasions

chris judd was the best on ground in a midfield role and it couldnt win them the grand final, thats my point

lol run of the mill spine, 2 AA players in cox and glass with a player like hunter who is hot property and a major cog like hansen really ordinary :rolleyes:

who said skills and run wasnt important? you can have all of that but you dont need to be 70kgs and have a 2.8 for 20m next to your name

get a bloody clue mate
