I thought his skills didn't seem any worse than the likes of McPharlin and Glass, and better than Dawson.

Fair point but the presure and pace of AFL is much higher. I'm sure he would only get better with experience and looks like he could provide a fair bit of rebound.

I would have liked to have watched some of his colts games this year as he looks like an exciting player.

I just read a phantom draft on twitter that has us taking McCarthy with our first, Giles with our second and Jansen with our third. I would be absolutely over the moon if this was to occur. What do you guys think?
The person writing the draft seemed relatively confident that McCarthy would be there for our first pick.

Dayle Gartlet seems to be of everyones radar
Surely he would be worth our second pick if we snatch a decent KP with our first rounder

Not sure. We have a few smaller types (Neale and Simpson out of the newer recruits) in the side at the moment and I would prefer someone who is going to be a bit bigger in the body.

Would be a dream come true.

All day and twice on Thursdays

Lachie might be small but he is a muscle bound bulldog, I don't think we're exactly an undersized team. Off the top of my head I can only think of 4 guys who are best 22 and are under 180cm. Walters/Neale/Ballas/Suban.

Agreed, but that doesn't mean we should have more.

RTB seems to like the bigger mid types and so i would have thought we were looking for a mid who is between about 185 and 190 with a tank. The only exception being somebody with elite foot skills for the same height. Just my thoughts

It's impossible to predict the later rounds but I'd trade any two of our first round picks since 2010 for any two of the Big Footy favourites in Darling, Kersten and Shaw. If Lloyd is incapable of identifying tall talent we need to get a specialist consultant in to help out. *cough* Rendell *cough*. It's just grossly irresponsible to have so few developing talls.
*Cough* Bluey* cough*

Well, I just took our first pick in the BigFooty Phantom Draft. Cameron McCarthy was available, but I went for Jonathon Marsh instead. You can see my write up here. Must admit, I was tempted to pick a back flanker. But there will be plenty of time for that later. :p

Yeh, McCarthy, Garlett and Thorp would be a dream draft although there has been a lot of talk of Hawks taking Garlett with there 2nd pick.
Personally I would be hugely disappointed if this was the outcome of the draft. I just don't see any value in getting Thorpe. He has been playing in a piss weak competition and playing as a midfielder. To me he would be a waste. Garlett just isn't going to happen. There is no chance we are going to pick him up.

I agree as I don't see the point in picking up Thorp and McCarthy. I would rather McCarthy but Garlett has dominated WAFL this year and I don't see why Freo shouldn't pick him if available with our second or third pick.

Garlett has well publicised off field issues and has openly expressed his intent to move interstate. His manager has openly said that neither WA clubs are interested. On top of that Fremantle has steered clear of drafting players with off field issues no matter how good they are.

Garlett might have dominated but we have Simpson, Neale and a few others who would do the same job he would do. IMHO we will be taking a bigger mid for the second round if we take a KPP in round 1 otherwise reverse the order.

With the exception of Simpson we haven't taken anyone shorter than 185 in the first two rounds since the 80/09 Draft (which admittedly gave us Hill, Balla and Suban all under 185). I don't think we will change that policy too quickly. Especially as RTB like the bigger bodies.

Garlett is a mile better than Simpson at this stage. I wish it was the other way around.

If he (Thorpe) lives up to his original draft position he would be a steal.

If Garlett's year could be summarised as dominant this year. Then so could Duffy's in 2012. He effectively drifted in and out of games like any cameo specialist small forward.

And so would Cale Morton. If ifs & buts were candy & nuts.. :p

You're right on the money with that one, if we draft Thorpe I will say they are different because Thorpe didn't spend the years between on an AFL list and hopefully it was just his FIGJAM attitude and subsequent delisting that stopped the AFL public getting to see his full potential.

Duffy drifted in and out but you could hardly say Garlett did. In the games I watched of Garletts he dominated the midfield, pushed forward and kicked goals.

I'll take your word for what you saw, even though I saw games on ABC where he kicked 6 goals etc, he still played the forward/cameo mid role, and did so well. I just personally feel like he didn't exactly rate as BOG through sheer hard working and gut running, but rather opportunism.
