Chris25 is it reaching to take cam giles with our 1st rounder. I rate him very highly and feel like his potential is as good as anyone's in the draft HOWEVER things like these say 30-50

He's clearly not ready yet, but neither are the midfielders that should be available at our pick and in 2/3 years i feel like he would be a perfect Johnson or even Mcpharlin replacement.
Also im guessing a bit here but being from SA less likely to get homesick, as most homesick boys are from VIC.

Surely one of Acres, McCarthy, Marsh, Giles, Gardiner will be available (not in any order). Happy with any.

I don't pay much attention to that website when it comes to non-Victorian players. It's just paraphrasing other people and basing everything off just a few games in the U18 Championships.
But, as big a fan as I am, I would say Cameron Giles in the first round is a reach. Assuming Cameron McCarthy is off the board, we could potentially have the likes of Darcy Gardiner and Jonathon Marsh available. Otherwise, there should actually be quite a few good and AFL ready midfielders - Dunstan, Dumont, Crouch, Hartung for example. I mentioned George Hewett as a possible second round pick to be that Viv replacement, and Dunstan would be a similar case again.
I'm becoming more intrigued by a Darcy Gardiner/Cameron Conlon combination though. With Gumbleton and Taberner, I feel like we could afford to take the risk with the hugely talented Conlon even if he needs a couple of years - and I highly doubt anyone else would draft him that early. While we'd get a very solid defender in Gardiner, and one who I think would already be ahead of Silvagni.
If Acres is available I think we should pick him with our First pick.
Chris, is it true there are a lot of talented talks coming through in next years draft? If so wouldn't we be best off going best available like we have for the last 5 years with our first rounder rather than a speculative pick on a tall if McCarthy is gone?
If this is the case my wife and her girlfriends should nominate for next year's draft![]()
Not sure why... but I reckon the Eagles will pick up Acres.
BTW... Anyone know more about Hugh Beasley. AFL website said:
"... He had the better of expected No.1 pick Tom Boyd early in the season and thrives on one-on-one battles. He's strong in the air and having run a sub-three second 20m sprint he's got the acceleration to stick with any leading forward."
Beasley posted a blistering 2.88 20 m sprint for a 192 90kg bloke. Super competitive and hates being beaten. A couple years in the gym and he will become a monster as well, already has big legs and a big arse to match it with the likes of boyd etc. Hopefully gets picked up, but if not, someone should definitelysteal him with a rookie
Yeah Lewis Taylor wouldn't fit the bill with the players that we have drafted over the last 3 years but you never know. We have such a big midfield that we could afford to go for a small mid. Saying that though I would much prefer a taller option.Phantom draft on Super footy has us taking this guy. Not sure about this, bit too much like Neale. The Wildcard may interest you all though.

17. Fremantle
LEWIS TAYLOR
173cm, 73kg
Geelong Falcons
Explosive ball-winner has the makings of Brent Harvey, combining toughness and pace at ground level. Short stature a turn-off for some but pinpoint skills and gut-run has helped him to dominate junior level.
THE WILDCARD
JONATHON MARSH
192cm, 87kg
Club: East Fremantle
Marsh is lightning quick for a big man and can follow up at ground level and turn like Lance Franklin. But he's a project. The Dockers wouldn't mind a big man — could they reach early and pounce at 17?

I'd say a 173 midfielder would probably still be available at our second pick no matter how good he is.Would prefer to steer clear of a 173cm midfielder. That is serious midget territory there. There's always short people compared to Boomer, but the reality is they are very unlikely to get anywhere near that level.
