A positive outlook is commendable but should be held up to the same scrutiny as a negative opinion/outlook. We all hope Selwood comes back cherry ripe but there's just no evidence to suggest he can after missing the entire pre-season.
"Deluded rubbish" and "get a grip" are not scrutiny, however (and I realise that you've been victim to this sort of abuse as well).

In the end it will all play out and some will be right and some will be wrong. Let's get there while still showing some "human decency" everyone!

Except to Hawthorn, they can all GAGF :)

Yeah fair enough I probably did go too far with the insults, it's just frustration from my point of view that people refuse to believe that we may not get much out of Selwood this season. He's not a superman and has been defying injury despite his physical style of play for years now. I just think it's time to lower the expectations on him, that's all.

And the answer is Joel Selwood, 2016.

And who says he's been missing pre-season? His skills may take a bit of time to get back to his best but I'm sure he's been keeping the fitness up well with his woman Britt each night ;)
Not an elite midfielder, but reminded of Daniel Menzel getting best on ground first game back after missing four pre-seasons. Miracles do happen.

Whatever you think of the article, it's yet another sensationalist headline to try to capture attention..

Great job by the team there getting the phrase 'Cats cheated' into their banner when the article goes on to say absolutely nothing of the sort.

'Cats beat system' could have worked quite well, while 'Cats cheat system' is clearly an overreach without any justification.

The other really notable aspect of the article is that the material listed under Lingering questions could have been just about lifted word for word from the prognostications of some of our most ubiquitous posters on here.

And, given the entirely spurious 'Scott was able to sleepwalk his way to a flag on the back of a whole bunch of talented and angry players' philosophy gets a run in the midst of it all, it's fairly hard to take too much of this expert opinion completely seriously.

Still, even the 'realists' on our forum will agree, time will tell.

Amongst strong competition, the part in bold would be the dumbest thing I've recently read in footy. Premierships are simply far too hard to win.

Time will tell if the article's premise and hypotheticals are correct, but in the meantime it'll certainly feed those on the pessimistic side of the fence.

Hard to continue looking forward to the ride, and even harder to remain a poster on BF, when there's so much negativity about the GFC here, and bashing the club has become a regular pastime.

I understand the concerns over some players, decisions and strategies.....but I also have hope. Without it you have nothing, no matter your endeavour.

Hope is what keeps supporters coming back.

And this has something to do with me posting that article?

Look, and this goes for the rest of the people on here who feel the same way as yourself, it may be better if you do leave this site if you quite simply can't handle any negativity being directed toward our football club. I'm getting tired of having to deal with criticism myself. It's no longer playing the ball but playing the man and the poster itself.
If you disagree with things then great, that's fine but there is nothing on this website which states 'ALL POSTERS MUST REMAIN POSITIVE AND HOUND THOSE INDIVIDUALS WHO CHOOSE TO SEE THINGS DIFFERENTLY'.

Freedom of speech and all yeh? Another thing whch may be beneficial is the ignore feature. Try it sometime, you can then only see what you want to see.

As for the negative nature of some people's posts, I think it may be warranted to some degree. We have seen some pretty extensive changes being made the past year or two which has not happened for a long time. This in itself suggests all is not as rosy as what majority in here seem to believe.
It's good to share opinions on both sides of the table. There simply would not be any change at the club if we all continued to praise everything and everyone for decades on end.

Woah! Settle.

You've taken my post out of context, and way over-reacted.

I made no reference to you, and simply engaged you in conversation by posting my thoughts on the way that article would resonate with some.

Nor did I hound you, or make any comment on your opinion. It was just a simple engagement of conversation.

Might be an idea to wind back the sensitivity. Such over-reactions are one reason why people are leaving this board.

Saying we need/deserve another coach and that we won't perform miracles as a club this year, like finishing top 4 or winning a flag, isn't bagging the club?!? When will the one eyed do gooders on here realise this?

Yep, it's bagging the club, and sometimes deservedly so.

Got no issue with constructive criticism.

Some though are so focused on criticising the club they've forgotten that the club has done some good things too.

How is it bagging the club wanting better outcomes for the club?

Re-read the first sentence of post 172 :D One word typo.

Absolutely nothing wrong with wanting better outcomes, and criticism, where and when warranted, is justified.

It's just the consistent derision that sometimes wears thin.

Anyhow, my post was taken WAY out of proportion, and we're OT.

Carry on.

I think I can only see half the conversation but from the quoted bits, I gather people are getting confused between bagging the club and negative comments.

In my eyes if you support the club then you support the club. I think we're all entitled to question some of their decisions and suggest alternative approaches. But I don't see how attacking the man at the club, is any differently from attacking the man on the board. Question his approach, suggest you lost confidence it him they're all fine, but once the decision is made you back your club in, because that is what it means to be a supporter.

tigers will not make top 4. Can't see the Roos going that well either.

and massive pessimist to have us at 8 IMO

1. West Coast
2. Hawthorn
3. Western Bulldogs
4. Port Adelaide
5. Fremantle
6. Geelong
7. North Melbourne
8. Collingwood
9. GWS
10. Sydney
11. Richmond
12. Adelaide
13. St. Kilda
14. Melbourne
15. Gold Coast
16. Brisbane
17. Carlton

I've thrown that up, but I think we're looking at one the more even seasons in recent memory. Similar to 2012.
All I can say with absolutely certainty, is my prediction will be wrong.
