I was going so well early, thought a top 1k finish was imminent, and then the free fall began

I've been overseas since the 7th of June (round 12), haven't seen any footy, so I'm using that as my excuse for dropping so hard

Anyway, it was a much better finish than my last couple of seasons

Bring on 2019!!!

ps. I want my spot in Tragics back next season ;)

Finishing Rank - 8109
Highest Round Rank - 2519 (Round 7)
Highest Season Rank - 7853 (just last week, funnily enough)
Average Score - 2222
Total Score - 51,400

Best Trades - Got on Macrae the round before he pumped out that ridiculous month where he averaged 150+, jumped off Billings at 450k before the back really fell out.
Worst Trade - Trading Bonner in thinking he was going to be the defensive rookie saviour I needed.

Best Starters - Mitchell has to win this one. Others would include Smith, Laird, Cogs, Gawn.
Worst Starters - Caddy who was averaging 101 close to midway through the season and finished at 84. Billings. Walters. Greene.

Overall Summary - Probably my most consistent season so far. Only a couple of rounds where the back really fell out (dipped close to 40k rank early in the season), and kept building across the season but never got rewarded with a mammoth score.

Probably the really important thing this season was fairly consistently nailing rookie selections and jumping off rookies at the right moments. Had all of Murray, Finlayson, Doedee, Kelly, Fritsch, Ronke, Richards, English, Higgins, L Fogarty, Henry, Giles-Langdon, and Austin and flipped almost all of them at close to their maximum prices. Gave me the sort of budget that allowed me to get some guns in where I might have otherwise needed to find value.

Oh, and so so disappointed I couldn't get Riewoldt in as my F7 after the bye. Would have been a huge run home!

It spiralled pretty quickly once I ran out of trades. I managed to field 22 every week except during the byes. The last few weeks I was stuck with Howe, Savage and JJK on the bench plus Walters and Jelly taking it in turns to get injured.

If I didn't keep Richards Mihocek and Keefe it could have ended up much worse.

My best trades were Jelly > Macrae and Smith > JRoo.

Season is defined by the rnd 1 disaster really, otherwise I think I could have had my best season ever.

Started Zerrett KO'd for 17. Fielded LDU (25) over Telly(118) in rnd 1 and the Aptly named Naughton (25) over Murray (72) in rnd 1 and that was all she wrote for any chance of having a good year.

Not starting with Cripps or Cogs also burned me bigtime.

And never being able to get Macrae, Grundy or Lloyd also hurt my overall potential.

I don’t like to gloat, but I’m absolutely pumped with a podium finish. I’ve been playing for a while and have never threatened the top ranks before so it was nice for everything to come together for one year.

Best - Not starting Hibberd. Not starting any expensive Rookies. Starting with Simpson and McLean. Trading in Neale (rd7) and Lloyd (rd9) early. Passing on Bonner.

Worst - Trading in Boak and Walters in the same week. Trading in Treloar the week he did his hammies. Trading in JPK the week he did his back. Starting Billings and Petracca. Never owning Macrae.

Thanks everyone for cheering me on and for all of your advice. See you all next year!

Ended up 2177.
Starting backline of Mills, C.Ellis, L.McDonald put me behind the 8 ball from the start.
That trio of junk cost me over $1mil and returned sub rookie scores.

Tossed up between Grundy & Nank and went the cheaper option. Cost me 350 points before I was able to make that trade.

Overall had a good season considering the start and made a s**t load of ground by planning for byes (same last year).

Won - Crowbar, Saints Disco, work comp and some random KMart comp (WTF).

Thanks for a very entertaining year kents. Enjoyed it immensely.

Finished rank 1656 after an absolute disaster of a start and years of poor rankings. Think I got very lucky with my trade ins and captain choices along the way this year (coin flipping titch, grundy etc.).

Best Trade - hmm.. no standouts, trading out Billings @ 450k, trading most rookies at their peak or slightly early. Doedee in Rd 9 only one that went too early on.
Worst Trade
- Crouch > Dusty Rd 3 (650k)
- Merret in Rd 6 and out Rd 9
- Trav Boak for 480k in rd 11 after which he tonned up once
- Michael Walters, had probably 2 good scores then was injured or suspended

Final Ranking: 12,405 .......sunk like a rock, losing , 4,500 spots in last game

Comments:
1.
Was happy with starting side, but missed a couple of starting bargain "must haves" ...Cogs & Dev Smith

2. Because i didn't quite get my starting side right....i hovered in the 2,000's most of the season & couldn't catchup

3. My FWD line was always my achilles heel .....ultimately providing putrid scores that saw me spiral to my ultimate ranking from the start of Finals, when i was out of trades .....2,300 to 12,405

4. Overall, it was just getting the starting side better ....i was happy with my game overall, just ran out of trades and far too many injuries thru the Finals & unable to cover ......

Worse Trades:

KPF's .....said it last season, but they are so inconsistent ....Hogan :poo:
Macrae ...sold the farm to get him ...lasted 30 min.....traded him instead of holding
O'Meara over Cogs
Walters !! .....was a trade out & trade back in .....so he really burned me
Zorko !!.....both he & Walters did enough to get into my side, but failed when it counted
Rockcliff !!....do i really need to expand on this player :poo:

Finishing Rank - 558
Highest Round Rank - 58 (Rd 10)
Highest Season Rank - 82 (Rd17)
Average Score - 2,275
Total Score 52,323
Achievements Ranked inside top 1k for 18/22 rounds

Started with 8 premo priced - 8 mid-priced - 14 rookie priced set up.
Nailed most of my mid-price & rookie selections.
Kreuzer & Billings being my 2 starting premo fails as R1 & F1

Rd1 Team
Laird, Shaw, Sicily, Doedee, Finlayson, Murray (Naughton, Murphy)
Mitchell, Dusty, Fyfe, Cripps, Coniglio, Brayshaw, Kelly, Holman (Banfield, LFogerty, Garlett)
Kreuzer, Gawn (English)
Billings, Walters, McLean, Devon, Dunkley, Christensen (Fritsch, Venables)

Best trades:
Rd5 Kreuzer > Grundy (pulled the plug early on Kreuz, wish I had gone even earlier)
Rd6 Walters > Danger (just before Walters injury when he was averaging 100 & priced at 500k+)
Rd7 LFogerty > JPK (441k) averaged 106 in my team. Not counting injury game (27) was on my bench that week.
Rd8 Holman > Zorko (425k) averaged 104 in my team
Rd11 Christensen > Gus Brayshaw (the round where Christensen got knocked out early for -3)

Worst trades:

Rd3 Dunkley > Liam Ryan & Naughton > Bonner (my 1st 2 trades, also my worst)
Rd12 Billings > Boak & Dusty > Rocky (did nothing to improve my team, wasted 2 trades)
Rd22 Shaw > Witherden (15 points inj) over Simmo 50/50 cost me 300 ranking spots

Where it went right: Rd1 selections & structure (8-8-14) -rookie heavy def & stacked mid-priced fwd line + very early rookie upgrades to bottomed out premo's (Zorko, JPK & Bray)
Where it went wrong: benching Cripps at the last second in Rd19 believing he was a late out & trading in Witho 15 minutes before he pinged a hammy. Also, too many Port players (4) contributed to falling away in the final few rounds.

Overall, reasonably happy with my highest ever SC finish. Should have been at least top200 but for a couple of brain fades in the latter rounds.

Career best overall combined fantasy season across the 3 formats
AF 134th - DT 223rd - SC 558th

Final rank of 3552, didn't pay much attention the last few weeks and coped my only donut by not looking at the teams. Still my best finish ever.

Was ranked a season high 450 5 weeks ago but ultimately injuries killed me this year and I was all out of trades a week after the byes.

See you all next year. Congrats to all the high finishes.
