Subject to some question marks over NN with Moo & Carroll sitting it out as well + Acres not considered as a walk up start without playing.
Chesser to perform over the 2 pre-season matches if to be a chance & Fog will likely be selected.
Wilson, Campo’s (LC more likely as a wing), Reidy and Byrne to impress in the matches as well if to joust their way in.

Agree. Newman isn't quick either. I really hope we see more run from defence this year. Wilson Ollie Boyd Charleson need to step up at some stage. Chesser should be an option with his speed
I've had high hopes for Wilson - what has been holding him back and have you seen decent changes this year for the hope that he can become a regular best 23?

Had a good pre season. Issue is he's behind Florent Saad Newman Ollie Williams

This is real watch for me this year. I think it's so important we intergrate and play youth like Wilson this year. The experience is vital and he really brings things we need

we need to be planning beyond Saad and Newmand so I agree he should get more senior time this year

I wouldn't be writing off Saady just yet....... For the first time in a long while he will have selection pressure.

I think he will be pushed by this and hopefully he can get back to near his electric best.
IMO he can still be a very important cog with his line breaking, bouncing runs.
Saad cops alot of criticism for not being more dynamic.

When he came to Carlton he was a risk taking (admittedly slightly loose) exciting player. Within 2 seasons we managed to turn him into a guy who took no chances and was basically taking one step kicks around the corner to clear the area.

It seems that he has recently been given a bit more license to run, but not positionally. By that I mean he is absolute lock down until he is not, but in that case go for your life son.

If we want to see the best of Saad we have to be prepared to cut him loose and cover him from time to time to utilise what he can create.

I watched him closely in the earlier practice match and his running, creating and kicking was a stand out. Just needs to work on his defensive side of the game especially his intent to defend. If he can fix this aspect he'll be a regular AFL player. Has the traits.

hows cooper lord going and will he have a role inside the best 23 this year
I think he's in the 23, starting on bench as a mid. Could also drop out if others on the fringe surprise.

Still behind Cripps, Walsh, Hewett, Cerra and probably Jagga for the onball role, and doesn't really have a second position.

Going early but based off the first hit out would love to see us line up like this in R0 given only Motlop HOF and Cottrell are unavailable

Dean weitering Newman
Saad young Florent
Hollands Cripps acres
Hayward Harry Lij
Ainsworth Kemp byrne
Pitt Walsh hewett
Cerra Williams Moir cowan HOK/Reidy

Really like what I saw in the practise match today, all our medium forwards can play tall/small besides Byrne who has mongrel as a general small, really rate the forward line. If we lower our eyes and hit teams on the rebound like we did tonight we can go far this year.

Go blues

Updated After Match Sim

B: Dean Weitering Saad
HB: Newman Young Florent
C: Hollands Cripps Hollands
HF: Ainsworth Kemp Jagga
F: Moir McKay Hayward
OB: Pittonet Walsh Hewett
IC: Cowan Byrne Fogarty Lord Williams

Assuming no Cerra

Post After Match Sim - what I would like to see - hoping all available. alt in brackets if not

B: Newman(McG) Weits(LY) Cowan(HD)
HB: Williams Derksen Saad
C: O Hollands Hewett Carroll (Acres)
HF: Ainsworth Kemp Jagga
F: Reidy McKay Hayward
R: Pittonet Cripps Walsh
IC: Florent (B) Fogarty (F) E Hollands (W/F), Cerra (Moir) (m/F), Lord (M)

Emerg: L Young, McGovern, HDean, HOK, Moir, Acres, Evans, Byrne

Defense - Cowan can play tall and small, I like Derksen - he made a couple of blues but Young is break glass

Mids - I really want Carroll to play on a wing, need his left peg entries into forwards

Forward - Kemp and Reidy might not kick a bag but I reckon it might be harder for oppos to get the ball out of our forward line and Ainsworth, Fog, Hayward and the rotating mid and others (Byrnes at times) will benefit, also like Reidy putting some mongrel in our forward line

Rolling team, subject to next week’s hitout.
McGovern, HOK the next in-line plus Derksen, maybe F.Young depending on his status for not playing any level this week.
See how the reserves players went yesterday (NN in particular) and AFL weekly injury reports must start to roll out Tuesday 3rd you’d think, if not next Tues.
Carroll, Cowan, Acres not considered
Cerra added to that list (TBC)

Wings seem unsettled. Thought LC may have been a chance with Carroll’s likely absence.

I’m leaning towards Young being more a replacement for Weitering if unavailable.

And Derkson and Dean being the two to compliment him.

FB Cowan - Weitering - Dean
HB Florent - Derkson - Saad

7th: Williams

Pending: Newman, Haynes and Carroll.

Carroll could be moved up the ground to the wing as well.

He pleasantly surprised last night. One game with little meaning but …
Plenty of teams have Dean in them, with a mature body like Derk, that would be my preference. I'd not mind Dean having a year playing VFL, let the kid develop slowly.

Dean will get plenty of opportunity this year, but he should not be a walk up start every week, it's not fair on him and he would get exposed.

He will be a very good player for the club but he is going to need time as most any young KPP needs before entering the cauldron full time.

Will be very interesting to see how we line up against the Swans. A few players unavailable with short term injuries. Liked the look of Derksen and would prefer to play him rather than rush Dean. I think Young also plays and can handle a Amartey or McLean type. Previously I would've said HOK over an extra ruck, but I think we'll play Pitt and Reidy to start with - the extra small/medium forwards means that they only need to make a contest when resting forward. Moir is stiff, but I think Kemp probably straightens our spine up a bit more. The coaches love Fog, so wouldn't be surprised to see him in the team - however I think Ainsworth is a major upgrade for his role.

B: Lewis Young, Jacob Weitering, Nic Newman
HB: Adam Saad, Wade Derksen, Ollie Florent
C: Ollie Hollands, Patrick Cripps, Campbell Chesser
HF: Ben Ainsworth, Brodie Kemp, Jagga Smith
F: Will Hayward, Harry McKay, Francis Evans
Foll: Marc Pittonet, Sam Walsh, George Hewett
I/C: Talor Byrne, Liam Reidy, Elijah Hollands, Zac Williams, Cooper Lord
EMG: Moir, O'Keeffe, Fogarty, Dean

Key injuries: Carroll, Cerra, O'Farrell, Motlop, Cowan, Cottrell
