there are no other teams worthy
I think Lillee finished up for WA that season. He came back for one season at Tasmania (85-6?) and got Hilditch with his first ball I believe, possibly in Devonport.
I thought he had a short stint at Tassie but I was thinking maybe I confused myself with Holding being there. Good to know I was not imagining things.

Love the Dodders and Funky Miller left field selections , but surely just take them in your squad.

Surely Border and Gillespie make your XI stronger and Dizzy has a double ton don't forget :)

Here's my all-time Australian squad of 18

Bob Simpson
Victor Trumper
Donald Bradman*
Greg Chappell
Ricky Ponting
Keith Miller
Adam Gilchrist+
Ray Lindwall
Shane Warne
Dennis Lillee
Glenn McGrath

Matthew Hayden
Allan Border
Steve Smith
Stan McCabe
Bert Oldfield+
Alan Davidson
Pat Cummins
Bill O'Reilly

This squad could change on a dime tbh. Fair few players could step into this squad without much argument from me.

My all time squad is very similar. Plus I made up a couple of teams they could compete against

V Trumper
M Hayden
A Morris

D Bradman
G Chappell
S Smith
R Ponting

A Gilchrist
I Healy

I'd be selecting Sobers as a bat. Forego the 2 spinners because Gibbs the only one worthy

M Bevan 12th man. Could play him ahead of Johnson in the absurd situation you wanted to strengthen the batting depth or could have a sub.

A squad of 18 over my time watching cricket, circa ummm 1985 onwards.

I caught bits and pieces of the Chappell/Lillee/Marsh era as a kid, but can barely recall those days; my main early memories of the Australian Cricket team was of a team always under siege and struggling apart from Alan Border, who was mighty.

David Boon
Matthew Hayden
Dean Jones
Alan Border
Steve Waugh
Michael Clarke
Steve Smith
Michael Hussey
Damian Martyn
Adam Gilchrist
Ian Healy
Shane Warne
Glenn McGrath
Merv Hughes
Mitch Johnson
Stuart MacGill
Terry Alderman
Pat Cummins

David Warner, Justin Langer, Mark Waugh very unlucky, but if I am being ruthless and selecting to cover all bases (apart from an off-spinner) then that is the squad I wanna take to war.
Merv Hughes may look out of his depth in that company, but he was a work-horse and could conjure a wicket when bugger-all was happening at times.
David Boon ahead of Langer or Warner is really marginal, but he had a really strong period where he drove Australian cricket forward in a manner that resonated with me at the time; watching him work out Test and ODI cricket throughout his career was a pleasure; I saw him as a callow youth struggling in England, and I saw him slowly come into his own home in Australia against NZ. He battled really gallantly against the Windies; no less than Curtley Ambrose rated Boon ''a difficult prospect''.

I'm not the biggest of Matthew Hayden fans for some reason that is obscure even to me, but you can't argue with his record, and he gets big bonus points for performing in India.

Damian Martyn ahead of Mark Waugh is really marginal, I am wavering even as I type; Waugh was such a great ODI specialist, along with Dean Jones and Michael Bevan perhaps our best.

I loved random players like Chris Rogers, Greg Mathews, and more obscure ones like Peter Taylor and Simon Davis (.even Tony Dodemaide, who another poster oddly nominated earlier in this thread).

Edit: HM to Glen Maxwell

you started following the game from the same time as me, so it's easier to compare sides.

I had G.Chappell & Warner in for Langer & Taylor and I had Cummins & Gillespie in for Alderman & Fleming. Either way it's a good squad.

Took a wicket with his first ball for Tassie.
