We lost the game because our best players in Sloane, Tex, Betts, Talia failed to fire a shot, you play in the biggest game of the year and you need ypur biggest and best players to stand up thats non negotiable, if they dont you may aswell not even be out there. These minor roles are pretty much determined by how well the freaks of your team perform, probably why we spend 30-40% of our salary cap on those 4 players

Then there forwards just ran away from Talia, Lever. you can be the best intercept player in the league but when the ball is coming into the forward line at speed and you don't have speed then you get burnt.
We were too Tall and too slow.
And one of the reasons Pyke made one request to the Recruitment team He wants speed. and so far it looks like we have weighted speed highly in their selection criteria. Look at the last couple of years any slow players selected in the draft.

We made the GF despite our tall structure, not because of it.

Yes and no. Yes our desire for a tall forward line regardless of situation ended up harming us, no because we made it in part due to a very powerful forward line papering over any midfield cracks we had.

Had we realized when we were punched in our collective face earlier in the season that 4 talls only works when McGovern is fit, we may have avoided that debacle that was the grand final.

Its more about the ability to throw the team around, We did not have that, Pyke had no option at Halftime, Take out the Slower talls, and he could chuck a Milera down Back, Douglas up forward. even gone with Hartigan on the ball or in the forward line, But he could not because we had slow Talls at both ends playing like s**t.
Yes you need your best to play well, but in a Big game, you need to have some adaptability. We had none.
Even a basic change of Milera for Otten would have given us a different move as mentioned Hartigan up Forward Milera down Back Or allowed Sloane to play Forward, with Milera playing wing half back with Douglas. Those are moves that could change a game.

There hasn't been much coming from the club communication-wise. Minimal puff pieces, draftee profiles, training news, anything. Which is good.

During the season they communicate a lot but if it's constant then it just becomes background noise rather than something to pay attention to.

There's a reason why some players are paid $800K + per Season to play AFL ......and it isn't to be part of a team only

I've said this a few times ....but i can't remember a quieter pre-season from the club ever !!

Normally there's pumping up of the Draftee's ....pumping up new players ......but nothing this season, diddly squat

Obviously deliberate ploy by the club ......i understand not wishing to continually rehash the GF, but we're also only getting scant training pics ??????

And yet that stat, has largely been ignored by the BF Community? ......now if one of the Scape-Goats had of had 4 kicks in the 2nd half, it would have been discussed infinitum

He was borderline and would have given us more than a few others did. and he has proven albeit in the SANFL he is a Finals player.

But to win a flag they need to cop the criticism grow from it and make sure it doesn’t happen again and have a focus on revenge this year

But our coaches got the selection wrong as well, we went in with the wrong team and when our top players were beaten we had no options on the whiteboard to move them around.
All should cop the criticism not just players but coaches as well.

I said in an other thread it was ultimately pykes responsibility and the club appointed Pyke so it goes up the chain

But pointless having a plan B if your guns played useless you could have a plan B C D and E wouldn’t matter

In the biggest game of the year we simply had too many of our guns down on form, I think in one media assessment they said Sloane would have won the norm smith if he had played in the second half like his first as we would have won the game
